Klipp frå Bygdebok for Lesja bd 1 (1987): Knut Johanness. Johannes, 1869-?, til Amerika, visstnok i 1888, heime 1917,var da mineformann i Idahoe. 2. Johan, 1871, tok over. 3. Peder, 1872-?, til Idahoe over Ålesund 1896. 4. Ole, 1874-?, til Dakota over Ålesund 1896. 5. Josef, 1876-?, til Dakota over Oslo i 1900. 6. Jonas, 1878-?, til Dakota over Ålesund 1897, heime i 1907,mekanikar. Drog til Idahoe att. 7. Hei Arnfinn! Has anyone been able to locate John in the 1900 USA census? Perhaps he would be living in the same area of Idaho as Peder (f. 1872) and Benjamin Anton (f. 1879)?? Maybe you already have the information from that 1900 census, which tells the year of immigration?mvh Patty

No, I don't have access to the 1900 US census. That is one source I hope somebody can check. John gave up Idaho as place of living when leaving in 1907 (link in nr 1).

Hei igjen! Do you think he uses Enebo or Knutsen/Knutson for a last name in the USA? I plan to go to our local library soon...I can try to search Ancestry for John while I am there.mvh Patty

Hei Arnfinn! I think I found John: 1900 census, town of Neal, Elmore Co, Idaho listed as John R. EneboeHe is a boarder (no family), born August 1869, immigrated 1888. He is a naturalized citizen. It looks like he is a 'miner of...unreadable word...then 'gold'.I'll look some more...is that all you wanted to confirm, was his year of immigration?mvh Patty

Patty, thanks. I believe you have found him! He was born Aug. 23, 1869. May be the initial isn't R but K?Yes, I just wanted to confirm the year he emigrated. The reason is I'm writing a book on the photograpic traditions of Lesja, and I have a picture of the whole family I will use in the book. It has previously been dated to 'ca 1895'. But I'm pretty sure it was taken just before John left, - in 1888. It fits with the age of the younger boys too. I'm enclosing the picture. Thanks again!

Hei igjen Arnfinn! What a wonderful photo!! Glad I could help. I also found John in later censuses, living in California in 1920 and 1930.mvh Patty
