[#14501] The 1660 Census

Recommended Posts

Guest Patricia Carlsen Mikkelsen

I am having difficulty finding farms in the 1660 census for Sogn og Fjordane. Is there any guide which will help me with this? The parish names don't seem to coincide with those in 1701, at least not so I can figure out. Most recently, I am trying to find Eitorn (old spellings Eigthunn, Eitun and Eithun), which is in Balestrand (Leikanger). I have looked in several files so far without any luck.I will appreciate any assistance. I apologize if I have posted this on the wrong forum.Helsing, Patricia

Leikanger is in Sogn. We have so far only published the Sogndal 1663-66 lists from that area.

So, if it were published at a later date, it would be simply called 'Sogn'? Am I understanding you correctly?Thank you for your response...

The Leikanger list is dated May 23, 1666 and on page 31 we find Eytun, farmers Peder 19 years old, Erich 50 years old, Lasse 24 years old. Soldier: Anders Ols. 30 years old. Cottagers: Anders, 60 years old, Knud, 17 years old, Anders, 9 years old, Ole, 5 years old.
