My great great great grandfather was Syver Niklasson born 1829 on the Sy Kvam farm at Lesjaskogen.Syvert married Ragnhild Johnsdatter (not sure when) and they had a son Johan (1855) and Nikolai Sivertsen Kvam (my great great grandfather) born 1861.The family moved to another farm in Lesjaskogen, Stuguflottenm when they had a daughter Joda born July 27, 1863.Not sure what happened to Nikolai's brother Johan. All I know is Johan had 1 son Magnus Anton (1877) but not sure where they settled.Looking for information on Johan? Where he went and his son, Magnus Anton.Nikolai Sivertsen Kvam married (not sure) a Laura Severine Elen Hermansdatter (Humblen) and he mothered 2 of his 3 children (that I know of). I do not know what ever happened to Laura. If she died or where she went. Nikolai Sivertsen moved to Alesund Norway. On the 1900 census Nikolai had another wife, Anne Berte Kvam. Nikolai came to America with sons and a daughter in May 18, 1910 from Kristiana, Norway. They came to America to stay with cousin John Kvam of Platte, South Dakota.NIKOLAI SIVERTSEN'S MOTHER: Ragnhild Johnsdatter was born in Vågå (Vaage) parish. When working with the bygdebok I found that she came from the Heidalen sub-parish, and from the census you can see she was 26 years old in 1865, i.e. born ca 1840. Does anyone know her in their family roots. Please help as I would like to find information. If this is part of your family tree or you know information, please feel free to help. My email address is dorothy.qualm@verizon.net

Hmmm. That second link may or may not be on the right track(?). I suspect that your Nik may have had two brothers named Johan. The first one's mother was Anne Hansdatter, unmarried mother, living in 1865 on Storøen Morken with (probably) her brother Hendrek and their parents. See also LDS' familysearch. Then, according to LDS' VRI, Father: Syvert NIKLASSEN, Mother: Rangild JOHNSDR and/or Father: SIVERT NICOLAISEN, Mother: RAGNILD JOHNSDR had these four: 1861-Niklas b. Lesjaskog, 1863-Joda(Jøda) b. Lesjaskog, 1867-Jørgine Marie b. Ålesund, 1871-Johan Ingvald b. Ålesund. If I'm right about this, it is thus the Johan b. 1871 who is your Nik's proper brother Johan. In an 1886 list, there is a Johan Niklassen paying taxes on Hammeren (29b), a subfarm of Kvam søndre in Lesja. (No guarantee that he is yours; no age or family info given. He's hardly the one who is 15 years old...)This has been playing with what's online. 'Twill be nice if someone who knows the family chimes in ;-)--Beth

Me again. You have Syvert and Ragnhild moving to Stueflotten in Lesja by 1863 (then moving on to Ålesund). In 1865, the only Niklassen there is the 45 year old widower Ole with his 4 young sons Johan, Mattias, Ole and Paul -- and his mother Jøda(!) Paulsdatter. Hmmm, again.By the way, in 1886 (tax list) the spelling is Stueflaaten and in 1900 (census) it's Stueflaaten and Stueflåten. For a burial in 1725 it's Stuflotten - many variants!
