[#16816] Halvor Olsen og Caroline Johansdatter - fra Askim/Hurum/Drammen til Chicago

Hei!Jeg har kjørt meg skikkelig og inderlig fast med følgende ektepar og deres etterkommere. Er det noen som har innspill til hva jeg nå kan gjøre mottar jeg dette med stor takk.Her er de opplysningene jeg har:Halvor Olsen (f. 05.mai.1831 på Ytre Hoel i Askim), gift i Askim kirke den 21.jun.1860 med Caroline Johansdatter Sekkelstenengen (f. 10.feb.1842 på Sekkelstenengen i Askim). Ekteparet bodde først i Askim før de flyttet 1866 for å bli husmenn under prestegården på Hurum. Senere kom de til Strømsø, Drammen før de emigrerte til USA helt på begynnelsen av 1870-tallet. Jeg har lokalisert emigrasjonen, jeg har gjenfunnet familien i 1880-tellingen for Chicago, Illinois, jeg har sjekket dødsfalls-/skifteprotokoller etter ekteparets foreldre og jeg har kjørt meg fullstendig fast!Barna som lever opp er: 1. Karine Mathea (f. 1864 i Askim. Kalles Thea ved emigrasjon og Tene eller Tena i ft. 1880). 2. Hanna Emilie (f. 1869 i Drammen). 3. Jennie (f. ca. 1875 i Chicago). 4. Emma (f. ca. 1877 i Chicago) og 5. Rachel (f. ca. 1879 i Chicago).I Norge kalles ungene Halvorsdatter etc., men i USA kalles familien Olson i én eller annen form. Har forsøkt å se i ft. 1900-1930, men uten større hell enn så lenge. Er det noen som kan hjelpe meg med denne nøtten? Den eneste av Halvors etterkommere jeg klarer å spore er en datter han får før han gifter seg. Henne har jeg til gjengjeld full kontroll på.Med hilsen Marius

Hi---i'am not able to read what you said about the 1880 census---i found them as Oleson's---Halorr and Caroline, he 49, she 38; so its them; i could look at the pre-1916 fiche for the parents..Roger.

Hi again,So you’ve answered me here as well! Halvor is Edward Hoel’s uncle on his father’s side, so you’re still working with the same family and my very same book project :-)))About the 1880 Census I just said that I had found them there, and that this was my very last information about them. I also said they had had several more children. Among other and older “Jenny Marie” who immigrated with them, but must have died before the new one.Anything you could do for me in this matter would be very appreciated. I can absolutely not find anything more about any of them! Many times several brains thinks better than just one, so that’s way I made this query. May be they’re entered in for instance 1900 clearly and nice as well, but if so I’ve jumped over them or made a bad search or something.All the best from Norway, Marius

A look at the census record shows that they lived at 2963 Wentworth Avenue in Chicago. Six families lived there so it must have been an apartment house.The online Illinois marriage index has the marriage of Thea Oleson and Evin Johanson on 3 April 1893 in Cook County, certificate number 00198711. Maybe this is one of the daughters.

Hello Marius, thought i would post and then find your email address again. I've looked at many Hal's and Carrie/Carol.. no luck; in 1884 they are still on Wentworth and he is a laborer; i wonder if they moved to be with a married daughter? Here is a possible Emma; finding a proper obit might be vital; i am asking for a Tribune lu only; i will post when there is some result with that; Emma dead at 22, single; on 12-26-1894; buried Dunning (this may be difficult-i think she has been relocated-we could use help with this!). ..there are no other IL born Emma Oleson's in the 1880 census..so this ought to be her....Roger.

Finally found them by looking in the right place--ahhh--1900 census-- Halvor is a Olsen, MN/t623/757/p15a/line 30--with Caroline and 3 kids. 6 of 11 are living. This is Blue Earth county, Beauford twn; and in 1910 and 1920 she(Olson)(Decoria twn) lives with bach farmer son Harry W(harrie),, born 10/1884 in Chicago; Rachel is in the 1900 twice, with her parents and as a 'servant'. Some MN local knowledge may help...i can look at the birth fiche again, but i doubt that will turn up much..Roger.
