Torkel Steen married a Carrie in 1850 at Sogndal. Torkel was born July 22, 1828. Carrie was born April 18, 1825. I would like information on who Torkel's parents are and Carrie's too and what farm they came from at Sogndal. If possible, I would be interested in finding out their wedding date too. They emigrated to America in 1861. Tusen takk for all help.

Torkild Andersson Fuhr aka Torkel A. Steen, born in LUSTER Co., Norway July 27, 1828, son of Anders Torkildson Fuhr (1789-1846) and Synneva Olsdotter (1790- ), was married in LUSTER Co., Norway May 2, 1850 to his cousin:Kari Christensdotter Bringe aka Carrie Bringe, born in LUSTER Co., Norway May 17, 1825, daughter of Christen Olson Bringe (1792-1871) and Johanna Olsdotter (1786-1849).Torkel and Carrie emigrated in 1861 and settled on a farm in Pilot Mound township, Fillmore Co., MN where Torkel died June 4, 1897. Carrie Steen died Nov. 6, 1908. They had ten children, five of whom were born in Norway. Among the children was:* Anna Steen (1858-1931) who married Bent K. Larson (1851-1934).Most of Anna Steen's back to the early 1600's are described in the Luster County History Book series, volumes I-IV (1984-1991). The Fuhr farm with the Steen homestead as well as the Bringe farm are located in volume II (1986). These books are on file several places in the US, including:* Library of Congress, Washington, DC* St. Olaf College (NAHA) at Northfield, MN* Luther College at Decorah, IA* Vesterheim Genealogical Center, Madison, WII hope this helps you!By the way; Torkel Steen's mother, Synneva (Susan) or ''Grandma Steen'', emigrated in 1861 with Torkel and Carrie. Do you, by any chance, have any knowledge what became of her ''over there''?Also; Torkel and Carrie's oldest daughter Johanna Steen (born June 8, 1850) also ''disappeared'' in the US. We know she was alive in 1865, but what became of her?Very sincerely yours,Lars E. Oyane, Luster County Historian - loya@online.no
