My great grandfather served two years of military service at Kristiansand in the late 1870's and 1880. What type of work did a soldier do at this time? How many soldiers typically served the Christiansholm Festning? Did all soldiers get billeted out in boarding homes? Where were the main businesses at in Kristiansand during that time period? Where were most of the private homes at that time? I have learned that the old kirke at Kristiansand burned down in 1880. How did it catch fire? When was that kirke built? Mange takk.

Did the kirke at Kristiansand get built on the old site of the gamle kirke at Kristiansand that burned down? How many qvartels of Kristiansand are still pretty how they were originally built? What qvartels is the Posebyen area? Are these all homes or are there businesses in this area too?
