And maybe this is Karoline? At least it fits well geografically, but take it with many grains of salt:KAROLINE SERINE STEFFENSEN FemaleEvent(s): Birth: 03 JUN 1863 Christening: 14 JUN 1863 Eid, Sogn Og Fjordane, NorwayParents: Father: STEFFEN OLSEN Mother: GERTRUD JAKOBSDR

Per Håkon has found the right girl; here Lenke shown in the 1865 census as living with her parents Steffen Olsen and Gjertrud Eline Jacobsdatter at the farm Starheim (Storeim) in Starheim subparish, Eid parish. This information fits perfectly well with the information given in the 1891 census, so you can be sure that we've found the correct parents for both Ludvig and Karoline.

Yes, Per Håkon, I maybe won the race, but I think this was an example of good co-operation anyway. Without your information about the baptism of Anna Louise in the first place, I wouldn't have been able to find the parents so quickly!

And this should be Gjertruds parents in Eid. The family name of her mother smells fishy though, I doubt that both are Steffensen/Steffensdatter, but of course, coincidences happen:Gjertrud Eline Sex: FEvent(s): Birth: 14 Jul 1835 Place: Christening: 19 Jul 1835 Place: Eid, Sogn Og Fjordane, Norway Parents: Father: Jacob STEFENSEN Mother: Christi STEFENSDR

I did not find the other children, so maybe they were born in Canada; do you know, Geri, when they emigrated?

This link Lenke shows that the family emigrated in 1892.The only piece of information that doesn't fit, is that Ludvig is listed as working in a winestore in 1891 and as a smith in 1892. So far, I can't see that he has been a policeman, but he maybe he was a policeman i the 1880s.

And the job in Bergen may have been a temporary one while they prepared to emigrate. Not very unlikely I think, for someone growing up on a farm. It IS the same family.

I think no (9) above may be correct after all. In FamRes I find:Jacob Stefensen married 17 april 1832 in Eid, Sogn & Fjordane Kristi Stefensdatter

One thing that confuses me. Was Ludwig a Policeman,Smith or work in a wine store? Or all above? Also is there any way to find out if anyone else is also trying to find information on Monson family history like I am? Thank you all once again.

Ludvig came to Bergen in 1883 and was educating himself at 'underoffiserskolen' (non-commissioned officer school) in 1885. Clerk at the wine-store was probably a temporary job. Maybe he intended to work as a blacksmith in Canada? His parents were still alive in 1900 and his eldest brother had taken over the farm: 1900-census for 1430 Indre Holmedal (now Gaular), Aamot Rasmus M.
