Jeg søker opplysninger om min tipp- tipp- tippoldefar, Simon Hansen Sylte og hans familie. Han var født i Kvikne i Nord-Fron den 12. sep 1823, og giftet seg med Anne Olsdatter Valumstuen (f. 5. des 1827) den 21. jul 1850. De hadde fire barn sammen; Marit Simonsdtr. f. 5. nov 1849, Mari Simonsdtr. f. 19 mar 1855, Oline Simonsdtr. f. 3. sep 1859, Hans Simonsen f. 13. nov 1865. (Familen var bosatt i Kvikne i Nord-Fron). Oline og Marit dro nordover i 1880, og Marit ble senere gift i Rødøy, og Oline i Lurøy. Simon og Anne (og sønnen Hans Simonsen sammen med dem?) reiste til Amerika en gang først på 1880-tallet (1880-83?). Datteren Mari ble gift med Edvard Gulbrandsen i 1881, og de fikk to barn hjemme i Norge før de flyttet til Amerika en gang mellom 1883 (da siste barnet i Norge ble født) og 1885, da de skulle da fått en sønn i Wisconsin, USA. Jeg er som dere forstår ikke helt sikker på hvem som reiste når og sammen med hvem, men jeg håper noen kan hjelpe meg med å finne ut mer om det.Jeg er ikke sikker på hvor de alle var bosatt, men da Simon døde som enkemann den 18. mars 1909, var han bosatt bosatt i Moody County i Sør Dakota. Jeg vet ikke når Anne døde, så jeg håper noen kan greie å finne det ut. Jeg vet ikke hva som skjedde med Hans (kanskje ble han gift?). Mari og Edvard (da Edward Gilbertson) skulle etter at de kom til Amerika ha fått syv barn sammen. Mari skulle visstnok ha dødd i Pleasant Ridge, Sør Dakota i 1923 (dato ukjent), og Edvard døde i 1924 (Perkins, Sør Dakota). Håper noen greier å finne ut hvor de bosatte da de kom til Amerika, og hvilke forskjellige plasser de bodde på (fra de kom til de døde). Tror de flyttet en del rundt...Håper noen kan hjelpe meg å spore opp flere opplysninger om familien i Amerika!På forhånd takk:-)

Hei Rune! I hope I am not 'missing the point' of your question...my Norwegian is not perfect! Have you located the Gilbertson family in the censuses? If not, I did find this:They are in Perkins county, Breckenridge Pct. SD in 1910. Ages are hard to read, but I think it says Edward is 53 (55?) and 'Mary' is 55...they have 3 children living with them, Mary, Oscar and Otto. It says Mary (Mari) gave birth to 11 children and 8 are living. Immigration year is 1884. I hope this is helpful...and not information that you already know. mvh Patty

Hello Patty! Thanks for the information! Good to know that they immigrated in year 1884, and that they lived in Perkins county in 1910:-) I did just know that they had nine children.Can you find the family in an earlier counting?

Hei igjen Rune! Looked again... Yes, found them in the 1900 census as follows: Living in Moody county, Jefferson township, SD., 'Ed' Gilbertson age 43, and wife Mary age 45. It says Mary was born March 1854.8 children living with them: Gilbert (b. 1881 in Norway), Anton (b. 1883 in Norway), Albert (b. 1885 in WI)...then the remaining children were born in SD...Matilda, Mary, Sev...(can't read name of this son), Oscar and Otto. It says Mary gave birth to 10 chilren and 8 are living. Mary immigrated 1884 and 'Ed' immigrated 1883.mvh Patty

Hei Patty! I guess the name you can´t read is 'Severin (a normal Norwegian name:-D), I know they had a son with that name. I know that they had a child called Otto who died early, and I guess they had a second child who died early too.I hope you can fint some more information about the family! Hei Rune! OK...looked again at the 1910 census, now that I know the name of the other children. Antone Gilbertson (age 26), is living on the neighboring farm to his father (Edward)...he is listed just above Edward in this census. Antone is married to Mary age 21, and they have 2 children. I guess the son's name is Severin (he is 1+ year old I think) and the daughter is Marion, perhaps a few months old. The writing is again hard to read, but I think I am 'close' with this information.mvh Patty

Og mer....! Anton Gilbertson is age 37 in the 1920 census, living in Perkins, Rockford township. Mary is age 31. And here are their children: 'Sevin' ( seems to be the spelling) age 11, Marion 10, Arnold 9, Maria 7, Charles 6 and Grant 3 and a half.mvh Patty

Hei Rune! Glad the information so far, has been interesting! I tried to search for Hans Simonson(Simonsen) as well as his father Simon Hansen(Hanson)...nothing seems to 'fit'. Not sure how to find Mari Gilbertson's death...mvh Patty
