I suppose this is Magnus in 1900: [url="http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/WebCens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=4&filnamn=f01917&gardpostnr=647&personpostnr=4158#nedre>LenkeHis mother was Erika Maria Pedersdtr according to copy from churchbooks on FS: LenkeIt's impossible to get the churchbooks to open this morning. Here they are in the 1900 census: LenkeA son Jens, his wife, Kristine and two grandchildren (Dagmar and Hulda) are also mentioned. The same family in the 1875 census with several children: LenkeAnd here in the 1865 census: LenkeHans Olai and Erika Maria got married on Nov 20, 1857 (copy from churchbook) LenkeWhen the churchbooks are available again, you can find their births and thus their parents or someone may have 'bygdebooks' from Ibestad.I think this Michael Hansen on Bredvold in 1801 is your forefather too, he is not yet married:

Hi Kjellaug Robberstad PetitThankyou for your propmt response. Your reply is helpful in many ways , however, there are more questions..1) What are bydebooks and who might have these in their possession for Ibestad.2) Why is Magnus Bertrin shown as from Ofoten and Storskog in 1900 he can't be in two places at once.3) In point 4 you mention farm names. Can you let me know what you think they are ?? Do I need to get someone to physically look at the original??4) Harold Hansen is something of a mystery regarding his nationality. His father, Magnus Bertin worked on ships that regularly went to the UK and met his wife in Swansea, South Wales but Harold Hansen has no birth certificate here. How is it possible to trace journeys made by Magnus before and after he got married??

Hi Odd Tjade,Thankyou for your response which has also been helpful. Can I please ask how to get hold of the books from which you derive the information and also how have you grouped the information in generations - are the parents of Hans Olai Mikkelsen Rasch Mikkel Rask Hansen (1777-1846) Breivoll and Anna Katarina Kristiansd respectively and parents of Erika Maria Pedersd. Peder Olsen (177-1840) and Renså Lava Kirstina Olsd respectively. Finally is it possible to go back any further?

Hi Rob HansenThe number system is the ordernary one for listing ancestors. The father of a person has twice the number of that person, and the number of the mother pluss one. So the connections you mentioned between ancestors are right. It is possible to go back further. You may search for information about the families Trane and Rasch on the web and find some information, but it takes a lot of time to verify that the information is relyable. Information about other families is also possible to find. But it is not easy without contact persons in Norway who can help you.

Hi Odd Tjade,Thankyou for your message. I have two parents, four grandparents, eight great grand parents but 14great great grandparents, 12 ggg grandparents, 5 gggg grandparents, and 2ggggg grandparents for Magnus Bertin. Can I take it that the missing parents are unfindable??Also his son Harald Waldemar does't appear anywhere , as a birth, in records in the UK or Norway. Can you confirm that he must have been registered as a Norwegian citizen if he was born in Norway .Thankyou,Rob.
