In 1900 we find the Nilsen children living at home in Larvik with their parents, [url="http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&sidenr=5&filnamn=f00707&gardpostnr=995&personpostnr=4720&merk=4720#ovre>Lenkealthough Johanne (born 27/10/1877 in Larvik) is recorded as temporarily living in America, but no suitable Johanne Nilsen have been found in emigration records on line for Larvik, Oslo/Christiania. She could of cause have been living elsewhere for a period of time and that town/parish was recorded as place of residence or probably and more likely, travelled via Great Britain. We find that Ludvig (b: 10/9/1884 in Larvik) emigrated from Larvik on 11th February 1905, destination Chicago; reason better earnings Lenke No suitable Ludvig Nilsen has been found in Ellis Island immigration records on line;Emil (b: 10/9/1884 (Ludvig’s twin)) emigrated from Larvik on 1st September 1905, reason; better earnings. Lenke Emil arrived at Ellis Island on 18th September 1905 when it was stated that he had never been to USA before and that he was travelling to his brother Ludvig who lived at 5717 Slate (?) St, Chicago;and Louise (b:3/7/1889) emigrated from Larvik; on 20th September 1911, reason; following her brothers.

Immigrasjonsår 1893.1930 United States Federal CensusName: Magda Nelson Home in 1930: San Francisco, San Francisco, California Age: 45 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1885 Birthplace: NorwayRelation to Head of House: Head Race: White Occupation: SecretaryHousehold Members: Name Age Magda Nelson 45 Thelma Nelson 22

Manny thanks Hanne Line and Kurt. It was a very fast response. It looks as if both Emil and Ludvik married very quickly after arriving in US. Are there any on-line databases for birth and marriages for Cook County? It may be difficult to find Johanne and Lovise if they married shortly after arriving.I presume Kurt, since you do not mention anything about Emil and Gunda and the 1930 census, that you have searched but not found them there? Could they have moved to Canada, Emil before 1920 census and Gunda just after? Does anybody have any knowledge of Canadian sources? Many thanks againmvh Vidar

Yes, I've looked, but so far not found any good candidate for Emil Nelson in 1920 nor in 1930. (My Ancestry.com is limited to the US).His wife Magda, 20 yrs. old in 1910, might be the below person found in 1930 census, this is just a wild guess. She is married (not a widow), but not living with her husband and immigrated in 1907. She was 24 yrs. when she got married, i.e. 1914.1930 United States Federal CensusName: Magdalene NelsonHome in 1930: Boston, Suffolk, MassachusettsAge: 40 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1890Birthplace: Norway Relation to Head of House: Head
