[#63837] Knud Johnsen Øieland

Recommended Posts

Guest Kristen Åkre

My cousin's grandfather's name before emigrating was Knud Johnsen Øieland. He emigrated as a boy with his mother and morfar. His birth was uekte. His real father's name was supposedly Knut/d Verpe (no patronym known). Knud Johnsen was born either 2/5-1840 or 2/5-1846. This is all I know. I have found Verpe and Werpe in Telemark and Verpe in Buskerud, but none of these farms have any Knud/t listed in 1865, and I do not see any Joh(a)n either. I do not find any good place where Øieland is, except maybe Øialand in Tinn in Telemark, which could possibly be the one since there is a Verpe there too? Other Verpe places I found but without nearby Øieland variations (?) are in: Hobøl, Øf; Hol, Bu; Nome, Te; Bø, Te; Kviteseid, Te; Fyresdal, Te; Vinje, Te; Førde, SF; Bremanger, SF; Volda, MR.Does anyone have any thoughts? Takk på forhånd!

Yes, thank you--Mange takk! I had the date backwards; it should have been 5. Feb. (my error). The date of 1852 would explain why I did not find them in the 1865 census.

Looking at it some more, does anyone know where/how I could maybe find this John Knudsen Verpet? Without an age, it is difficult, no? I think there are more than one Verpe/Werpe/etc. to search, no? I do not have experience looking at any of the military records, but I also do not see anything for soldiers in Christiania/Oslo?? Any suggestions? Takk!

Anne, Do you recognize what it says for his place of birth in the confirmation record? Lenke It appears to start with 'Hov...'?
