I was wondering what is the appropriate age for a teenager to emmigrate from his family and farm in Norway?

I am`nt sure what you mean. In Norwegian we mean with emmigration to move to another country. If it is to leave their home, I can just answer for my three children. All of them left home at age 19. Also their friends left about that age.

Kim, I believe the age was 16 to be admitted into the US. I have found some children aged 15 in Ellis Island. It was common practice in 1880-1900 for families coming out from Norway to take other children as part of their family. They might be cousins or not related at all.US law at that time did not require birth certificates so as long as the child was on the manifest with that family it was legal.
