Probate October 8th 1812 for widower Hans Olsen Arboe, who died at Breivoll. He left five children:

  •
  • Son Jon Hansen, dead, one son Hans Jonsen, 3 1/2 years of age, living with his mother, who was now married to Ole Paulsen at Nordre Roldnes.
  • Son Mikkel Hansen, 35 years of age, unmarried, living at Breivold.
  • Son Augustinus Hansen, married, living at Breivold.
  • Daughter Synneve Hansdatter, married to Hans Steffensen.
  • Daughter Barbro Hansdatter, married to Hans Olsen, living at Forså.

Hans Olsen Arboe didn't own any estates. His belongings were sold for 20 rd (abbrevation for riksdaler, the currency at the time), and he was owned 3 rd. As his children realized that this wasn't enough to pay his debts, the married children decided to add their marriage gifts, making Hans Olsen Arboe's total belongings 35 rd. Still, this wasn't enough to pay Hans Olsen Arboe's total debts, which was 55 rd, and hence nothing was left to his children.

This was very interesting !! I tried to find probate for Ole Nillsen Ærboe 1689

Birthplace: Breivoll, Ibestad, Troms, Norway

Death: Died 1771 in Breivoll/Ibestad

And Nils Jenssen Birthdate: 1660

Birthplace: Breivoll, Troms, Norge

Death: Died 1728 in Ibestad, Troms, Norge

but found no probate is this because there was a bankruptcy in 1710 ?? thankyou for doing this the handwriting was shocking!!

This (below) is a link to an old discussion about the bankruptcy of Nils Jenssen in 1729 (NB note date later than mentioned above)

Given that the date is late does this explain why there is no probate for him or his son.

Was he declared posthumously bankrupt??

Hope someone can help.

Rob.

I think you've got it translated pretty well. Nils seems to be alive in 1729 when his assets were counted for. He was convicted and was fined all of his assets. Then he would have nothing left, and if he died shortly after, he was probably unable to build up his economy. Additionally, as all of his sons were above 25 years of age and all of his daughters were married, they could arrange their father's probate in private, without interference from the authorities, and hence no there would be no recording of the probate in the probate record.
