Nancy Jean Hagstrom Sorenson

Birth: Feb. 20, 1934 Death: Oct. 2, 2005 trans.gif

Nancy Jean (Hagstrom) Sorenson, 71, of 901 S. Farwell St., formerly of 3120 Neptune Ave., died at Luther Hospital on October 2, 2005. She was born in Eau Claire on February 20, 1934, to Edward O. and Alma J. (Madsen) Hagstrom.

Nancy graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1953. She was married to Armond A. Sorenson of Stanley, Wis., from 1956 to 1984. She held leadership positions in Stanley for eight years. She moved back to Eau Claire and was a baptized and confirmed member of First Lutheran Church from 1980 until the time of her death. She was treasurer off and on for nine years with the bowling league “Hit ‘N’ Miss.” She loved to sing, and was vice president, board member, ways and means chairperson, costume committee member and stage designer committee member plus editor from 1981 to 1987 for the Chippewa Valley chapter of Sweet Adelines in Eau Claire. Nancy was also a den mother for Pack 127 at Sam Davey School for two years.

Nancy is survived by her sons, William E. Sorenson (Tammy) and John S. Sorenson (Betty), both of Eau Claire; brothers, Dr. David B. Shirley of Manchester, N.H., and Robert (Edna) Hagstrom of Mesa, Ariz., and a sister, Patricia Y. Hotchkiss of Brooklyn Center, Minn. Nancy loved all her grandchildren, Steve of La Crosse, Scott, Jennifer, Angela, Brandon and Brittany, all of Eau Claire; two step granddaughters, Jessica and Sue Bohlinger, both of Eau Claire.

Nancy enjoyed biking, camping, fishing, bowling, reading, traveling and painting on peoples’ windows at Christmas and also at nursing homes, church and Sunday school windows — even her own windows. She was an artist in oil paints and watercolors, all on canvas. As a pastime, she liked to put puzzles together. She will be sadly missed by many friends and relatives.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward F. Hagstrom; sisters-in-law, Lillian Shirley and Beulah Hagstrom; and one infant niece.

Services for Nancy will be at First Lutheran Church on Thursday, October 6, 2005, at 11 a.m. There will be a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Smith Funeral Chapel, and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.

Smith Funeral Chapel and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
