Laurits Olsen Rud born in Modum in 1856

Now I am beginning to wonder if Lars Olsen Rud born in 1856 in Norway and came to the USA about 1876 could be named "Laurits" and changed his name to Lars after coming to the United States? In the USA he used the names "Lar Olson Rud" and "Louis Olson Rud." I see from the 1865 and 1875 censuses that there is a Laurits Olsen Rud born in Modum. Any help is appreciated. Best Regards! Thank you so much but this is not the right person. The relatives of this person have given me completely lost leads. L. O. Rud married Lena Olsen in 1888 in North Dakota. There is another Laurits Olsen that was born in Ulensager that I am wondering about. Thank you all for your help! Clark

I think you are right. I have seen examples of people sometimes called Lars and in other occations called Laurits. The Laurits Olsen that lived on the farm Rud in 1865 was born 9 September 1855 (chr. 4 November 1855 - http://www.arkivverk...ny&idx_side=-92), and his parents were Andrine Andersdr and Ole Hendricksen. They were not married, and in the 1865 census Laurits is listed as the son of Andrine's brother. See http://digitalarkive...ostnr=546#nedre

 

Ole Hendricksen, the father of Laurits, lived at a near by farm called Jahren. See http://digitalarkive...ostnr=417#nedre
