Norsk-amerikanere søker slekt i Norge

Hei alle,

 

Jeg fikk følgende e-post fra kjenninger i USA og Digitalarkivets brukerforum må jo være det ideelle stedet å få hjelp til dette;

 

I have checked my records for my grandmother, Clara May Thorsness.

 

She is listed with her parents on a U.S. census form dated 10 June 1880:

 

Father:Severt Thorness, age 33, born in Norway

 

Mother: Ulikka Thorness, age 29, born in Norway

 

Brother: Henry O. Thorness, age 5, born in Minnesota, USA

 

Self:Clara M. Thornes, age 4, born in Minnesota, USA

 

Sister: Emma C. Thornes, age 2, born in Minnesota, USA

 

Based on the age of Henry, I assume that Severt & Ulikka would have been

married about 1874.I cannot tell, however, when they came to the United

States.They may also have come to the United States as children with

their parents.

 

I can find no other records for anyone named "Ulikka".The closest I can

find is from the 1870 census which lists "Ueelen Olesen", age 19, born

in Norway and working as a domestic servant in Wisconsin.

 

In 1900 there was an "Ole E. Thorsnes", age 57, born in Norway, and who

had immigrated to the United States in 1851.By 1900, Clara had married

into my Cissell family, but since she and Ole was living in the same

town (and my father's nickname was "Ole"), I suspect they may have been

related in some manner.

 

Unfortunately, that is all the information I have on Clara's family at

this time.

From a family tree on ancestry.com we can read that Sjur Thorsnes and his wife Ulrikke M. Norman were married about 1873, and they lived in Lyon Co., MN.

 

Sjur Thorsnes was born at the Thorsnes farm in Balestrand Co., Norway Jan. 8, 1847 (http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=8378&idx_id=8378&uid=ny&idx_side=-6) to the parents Hans Olson (Thorsnes) and Britha Johannesdotter (Langeteig). Sjur died in SD in 1907.

 

From the Minnesota State Marriage Index we find that:

 

Shure H. Thorsness and Ulrikka M. Johnson were married in Olmsted Co., MN on Sep. 14, 1873.

 

Sjur's ancestry can easily be traced in Balestrand Co., Norway.

 

Next is the challenge of tracing Ulrikka!
