Help with research and family locations

Hallo,

My wife's great grand parents came from Norway.  About a month ago I decided to see what I could find regarding her Norwegian roots.  She was lucky enough to have some family documents that aimed me in the right direction.  With some help from Anette Clausen at Digitalarkivet and Family Search I believe I have traced her ancestors back three generations.  Using what looks like a well documented public family tree on Ancestry I have added another 2 generations.

I am looking for someone who would be willing to look at my work and confirm for me that I am correct.  I believe all of the records are there for me to see, but am stymied by my inability to read Norwegian.

I am also looking for someone that can help me figure out where my wife's ancestors lived.  We love to travel, but I hate sightseeing, so going to places that have a personal meaning is my way of seeing the world.

Can anyone willing to help?  I would certainly be willing to reciprocate if folks need help researching descendants in America.

Jim Kelly

If you post your research here then it would be easier for people to help you. By doing so you open up so that several people can verify the data, spreading the work load. However, if for some reason you cannot do that - I can be of assistance to look it over. In that case you can send me a PM with the details or ask for my email :)

I hope the attachment comes through.

I appreciate your suggestion.  If it doesn't make it I will try a text version.

Thanks,

Jim Kelly

Ann-Mary Engum,

Thank you very much for what you have provided.

Is the following information from a Census and if so which one?     "1865-telling for 0301 Christiania  2109 2177 453 212 Maridalsveien (General Glads Arbeiderbolig) (NB skal være No 223. M E Nord) Gamle Akers Menighed Christiania Underskrift: M E Nord 79".  I am guessing the 1865 Norway Census.

Thanks again,

Jim Kelly

Can someone explain to me how to search for a specific document,  For example, I used FamilySearch to locate the marriage of LARS JOHNSEN MYKLEBUST FJERTOFL to *GRETHE ANDFINDSDR FLEM, on 10 Aug 1823, at Haram, Møre og Romsdal, Norway.

Thanks,

Jim Kelly.

Let me once again start with a thank you for your kindness.  It is apparent that I should have taken Norwegian in High School instead of Wood Shop.  The Digital Archives have me stumped.  I know there is a Marriage Record for Hans Torstensen and Anne Marie Botolfsdt, (In fact there are two which stumps me.) but when I search I can not find them.

Is there someone out there that can take my tree (above) and:

1.   confirm what I have,

2.  provide me with the supporting documentation,

I would be willing to pay for your time.

My email is:  j.kelly@frontiernet.net.

Hi Jim.

You have been given the marriage date and links to the entry by Ann-Mary Engum above.

The entry also gives their birthplace and name of their fathers: Hans born in Aasnæs, father Torsten Anderssen, and Anne Marie born in Aker, father soldier Botolf Haagensen. The marriage entry in the parish records look like this:

Can any one tell me how to look up a record using the URN-NBN number?

I'm not sure I understand your question? Normally, you should not need any indexing numbering lookups. If so, I expect you are trying to access the records a wrong and cumbersome way.

It is summer vacation in Norway, so the members' forum response may be somewhat slow.

Best regards,

Stian

Stan,

Thanks,

Are you familiar with Family Search?  if you are then you know every film/picture has a distinct number so if I need to go back and find a document, I can search by the name, date, place, etc. or I can plug in the document number and access it directly.  I happen to have some URN-NBN numbered documents but the file size is very small so I can not blow them up.  I want to look up the file and copy it onto my computer so I can open it in Photoshop and look at it as well as enhance it.

Sorry, I misread. I jumped to the conclusion that your question was an issue with the Norwegian national archives. No, I am not an expert on Familysearch. Familysearch is a nice secondary source, but I always prefer to use the primary one. Sorry for my comment.

Best regards,

Stian

You must have opened the image link and yes, that is too small. The pagelink is better, because there you can choose image size up to 150% and even enlarge it further with [ctrl] [+].

If you look at the right hand side on top of the page, you will also find PDF choices for the image.

When you save the page link to your genealogy program, copy the line under the source information, and in that way, you will be able to access the image directly,

Stian,

Let me try my question again.  I have a list of URN-NBN numbers for documents I want copies of.  Can I search by the URN-NBN number ?  yes [  ]  no [  ].

If the answer is yes [ x ] how do I do it.

No you can't.  It is no search in this records at all. But of course, you can make URL if you have what you call URN-NBN numbers.

Look at this reference to a page:

Kildeinformasjon: Oslo fylke, Oslo Hospital / Gamlebyen, Ministerialbok nr. 1 (1734-1818), Ekteviede 1799-1802, side 168.
Permanent sidelenke: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=7401&idx_id=7401&uid=ny&idx_side=-173
Permanent bildelenke: http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20061010010401.jpg
The first line is information about book/page.

The second line is what you need to find the record (!).

The last line is only URL for an image file.

If you have "URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20061010010401" you can put "http://www.arkivverket.no/ in front and ".jpg" last and paste into your browser, and you will get the image. But it is no way to go from the image to the record (second line).

The reference URL you need is in the second line.

The first line is the correct reference that will "never" change, it is the direct reference to the church book page regardless of presentation method, but it is no internet reference.

(I have never seen images for norwegian church books on FamilySearch)
