Obituary for Betty Peterson

 

Betty J. Peterson, 81, of Niagara, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2013, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain.

She was born June 22, 1932, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Christopher and Luella (Smart) Hoveland. Betty graduated from Kingsford High School. She married Frank Peterson on June 14, 1952, at First Covenant Church in Iron Mountain.

Betty worked for the Ford plant in Kingsford and the Chemical Co. for a few years. She later went to work for the Niagara Paper Mill as an office clerk for over 20 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church, Niagara, and the Masonic Order of the Eastern Star. Betty loved spending time with her family, gardening, spending winters in Florida, relaxing at her cottage in Spread Eagle, and was an avid Packers fan.

She is survived by her husband, Frank; four daughters, Lisa (Tom Anderson) Hendricks, Niagara, Kristie (Mark) Coats, Mississippi, Wendy Peterson, Green Bay, Paula (Mark) Christensen, Suamico, Wis.; seven grandchildren , Neil (Jenny) Hendricks, Ryan (Christina) Hendricks, Brenda Cheney, Michelle Cheney, Nicole Heckman, Kristel (Shane) Thrash, Marissa Christensen; ten great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Pauline Senecal; one brother-in-law, Jerry Lemke; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by seven sisters, Madeline Monroe, Maude Matchett, Laverne Maraccini, Lula Sniderwin, Vera Lemke, Ethel Bohnett, Una Hoveland, and one brother, Ivan Hoveland.

The visitation will be Wednesday, November 6, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Riverside United Methodist Church, Niagara. The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the church. Rev. Jean Larson will officiate. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery, Niagara.

Mrs. Helen Hoveland, aged 59 years, mother of Mrs. Lewis Haggen, of South Bellingham, died at Weyerhaeuser, Wis., Sunday, August 21, death being due to heart disease. Mrs. Hoveland is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lewis Haggen and Mrs. Amos Atkins, residents of this city, and Mrs. Helen Noggle, of Anacortes, Wash., and three sons, Adolph C. Hoveland of McMurray, Wash.; Christ A. Hoveland, of Weyerhaeuser, Wis., and B. W. Hoveland, whose home is here.

The body of Mrs. Hoveland was brought here for burial, arriving this morning in company with B. W. Hoveland, a son of the deceased. Funeral services will be conducted at the chapel of Mock & Hill, the Elk street funeral directors, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. O. Skattebol, pastor of the United Lutheran church, officiating. Interment will take place in Bay View cemetery. The funeral car will leave Twenty-first street and Harris avenue at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, conveying the family and friends to the chapel.

Hoveland brothers wrote for the Noggle's to move out west.Later moved to Anacortes, rented an apartment and built 1st house at 420-37th St, Anacortes - 10 acres(Norm and Geri were born at that house).Freeway was eventually built and house was demolished. Next house was at 715 35th St, Anacortes.Geri remembers when her father retired, he use to go up on the hillside and feed the goats and make little lean-to's for them.They were on the hillside overlooking the bay toward Mt. Baker and where the refinery is now.There was a box factory and a mill just below their house.

Obituary for Ethel BohnettIRON MOUNTAIN - Ethel M. Bohnett, 94, of 401 E. "D" St., Iron Mountain, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Freeman's Nursing and Rehabilitation Community in Kingsford.

 

She was born Sept. 22, 1914, in Weyerhauser, Wis., daughter of the late Christian and Luella (Smart) Hoveland. She moved to this area as a child and graduated from Kingsford High School in 1932. She worked in the Kingsford High School Superintendent's office as a secretary and later moved to Ann Arbor to work for Edward G. Kingsford's daughter. She also worked at Bruce Products in Howell, Mich.

 

She married Raymond Bohnett on July 3, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1975. She was a longtime resident of the area. Ethel loved to cook and bake for family and for parties at Washington Court. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and shopping with family and friends. She wrote fluent poetry and had a witty sense of humor.

 

She is survived by five children, Bill (Marsha) Bohnett of Williamston, Mich., Shirley DeLongchamp of Niagara, Wis., Dolores Haglund of Hudson, Wis., Marilyn (George) Hewlett of Norway and Donna Cousineau of Iron Mountain; one son-in-law, Darold Cousineau of Kingsford; one sister, Betty (Frank) Peterson of Niagara; 11 grandchildren, Jerry, Brian, Linda, Peggy, Carrie, Paula, Bob, Rhea, Eric, Erica, and Staci; six great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

 

She was preceded in death by one brother, Ivan Hoveland; six sisters, Lula Sniderwin, Madeline Monroe, Maude Matchett, LaVerne Maracini, Una Lorraine Hoveland, Vera Lemke and son-in-law, Aldon Haglund and daughter-in-law, Dolores Bohnett.

 

There will be a private visitation and funeral service on Tuesday at the Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

 

Burial will be in Cemetery Park.
