Mikkel Knudson Skau f 1857.

M. K. SKAUG
(by Rev. P. J. Nestande)
As we are nearing the end of another year, the final summons came sudden and unexpected to end the earthly years of another pilgrim, who has sojourned with us for a number of years. He was a most regular attendant every Sunday at our church services, and was here in his accustomed place in church on te day of is departure, and little did any of us realize that he was attending for the last time. At the end of the Sabbath day, Dec. 22, while in his usual health, death stalked in suddenly and in the twinkling of an eye, a heart attack caused instant death. He was all set for a trip to spend Christmas with some of the children, as he has often done in late years, his belongings all packed, and the children expecting "Dad" the next day, but instead, the busy wires brought them the sad news, that he had entered upon a longer journey, from whence the travellor does not return. God had other Christmas plans for him, and called his servant home. We can ill afford to lose this loyal member, but will not question God's wisdom in calling him away, for God knows best. During late years after retirement from active business, Mr. Skaug, as a deacon of this church, has spent considerable time visiting with the sick and shut-ins among us, and we remember today, that on the day of reckoning the Master shall say to those on His right hand among other things, "I was sick and ye visited me."
Our late friend, Mr. Skaug firs saw the light of day in he parish of Fresvik, Sogn, Norway, on September 22, 1856, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Knute Skaug in whose family there were six children of whom now only two remain, Mr. Ole Underdahl Skaug of Montana, and Mrs. Bertha Simleness of Oakland, California.
Mr. Skaug came to the U.S. and Cannon Falls, Minn. in the year 1872. The first few years were spent around Cannon Falls and at Northfield. In the year 1880, he was united in marriage to Miss Ragnhild ..uene, who died four years later, on Dec. 18, 1884, leaving husband and one son, Roy, now a resident of the Hawaiian Islands.
On May 12, 1886 he married Miss Serene L. Iverson who became a loyal and true help mate to him, as well as a mother to the little son. To this latter marriage union were born five children of whom four survive him. The eldest daughter, Marie, was claimed by death in 1897. In the spring of 1911, on May 31, Mrs. Skaug was called by death. The following children are left to mourn the passing of a very kindly and affectionate father; Mrs. Tracy Lund, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. Henry Skaug, St. Louis, Mo.; Mr. Walter Skaug of Long View, Wash and Mrs. Howard Olson of Jackson, Minn. He also leaves eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mr. Skaug became a resident of Lanesboro in 1903, having previously lived at Northfield, Albert Lea, Minneapolis and Ulen, Minn., at which places, except the last one he had been engaged in the tailoring business. At Ulen he entered the Mercantile business for awhile, when he sold out, and came to Lanesboro to establish the business firm of Skaug Bros. and Lynch, where he continued until the year 1914. The following year he entered business alone and started a grocery line, from which he retired in 1928, because of failing health. His health however was restored, and he has of late years enjoyed several fine travel trips, as well as annual visits with his children. When at home here, he lived at the Wangen home and often also helped out at the Wangen store. Mr. Skaug was of friendly disposition, made friends easy and held them. He was liberal in his giving to good and worthy causes, and a help to his children, and a very devout and respected member of the Bethlehem Lutheran church, who together with this community extends heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved children and other relatives. At the time of his death he was 79 years and 3 months old. The funeral was held from the Bethlehem church Thursday Dec. 27, and was largely attended. The vested choir sang and Rev. P. J. Nestande preached the sermon. Many floral offerings and spiritual bouquets for missions and charities were given in his memory. I minneordet står det feilaktig at paret ble gift 12 mai 1886

On May 12, 1886 he married Miss Serene L. Iverson who became a loyal and true help mate to him, as well as a mother to the little son.  "

Men her  står det 13 mai 1886,og det er vel det som er riktig.
