http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/charleston/obituary.aspx?n=bernard-langmo&pid=91496765

Elaine Dudley Smith, 1878-1938, was born in Middlesex, England. She was a violin teacher in Wales before emigrating to Calgary in 1907. She resumed teaching the violin, and in 1911 became a member of the first Calgary Symphony Orchestra, leading the viola section. In 1921 she founded a string orchestra, mainly comprising her own students and those of her colleague, Annie Glen Broder, which put on concerts until at least 1934. She was active in the Calgary Women's Musical Club. She and her husband, Harry R. Dudley Smith, had two children, Harcourt and Dorothie. Dorothie, 1909-1998, studied music and received her LAB in both piano and violin in 1926. She had begun playing in her mother's orchestra in 1923, and in 1927 joined the Calgary Symphony as a violinist. In 1930 she toured northern Alberta with the Chautauqua circuit. She married Robert H. Standish in 1932. She subsequently moved to Edmonton and played with the Edmonton Symphony until her retirement in 1976. Her second marriage was to John J. Langmo. «

LANGMO -- Dorothie Winifred (formerly Standish) (nee Dudley-Smith). Born in Calgary, July 1, 1909; passed away peacefully in Vancouver January 20, 1998. She is survived by loving daughters, Anne (Al) Fitzpatrick, Calgary, and Joan Langmo, Edmonton; three granddaughters, Carolyn Fitzpatrick, Sandra (Lance) Davidson and Shelley (Dave) Molyneaux; and six great-grandchildren; one brother Tobe (Barbara) Smith and family; loving companion Ron Baker of Vancouver; and three stepchildren, Don, Ruth and Gordon, and their families. She was predeceased by a daughter Jane, and second husband John. She obtained her Licentiate of the Associated Board degrees in both piano and violin at age seventeen, joining the Calgary Symphony the same year (later playing first viola). She also joined the "Capitolians" vaudeville and silent movie orchestra in the 1920's. In 1952, she joined the newly-formed Edmonton Symphony, retiring in 1979. She taught both violin and piano in Calgary and Edmonton for most of her adult life. Several of her students went on to the National Youth Orchestra and to be professional musicians in symphony orchestras. She was the first president of the Registered Music Teachers of Alberta, helped found the Edmonton Chamber Music Society, conducted student examinations for the Western Board of Music, and had a season with Chautauqua. A "working mother" before her time, she managed to raise a family and find time for award-winning needlework and preserves, volunteer work and gardening. She will be affectionately remembered as an example by her family and a wealth of friends and students. "She is not where she used to be - but she is everywhere we are." No flowers please. If desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 1212 - 1 Street S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 2H8. Private Graveside Service and Interment of cremains Banff Cemetery, Banff, Alberta at a later date.
