Florence Skogen Magstadt, 77, Tuttle, died March 12, 2004, at a Bismarck care center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, at English Lutheran Church, Tuttle, with the Rev. Valerie Kinlan officiating. Burial will be in Tuttle Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Eastgate Steele Memorial Chapel. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the services at the church.

Florence was born April 15, 1926, in Bismarck, the daughter of Theodore and Calma (Kelsven) Skogen. She lived on the family farm north of Driscoll until the age of 9, when her family moved to Tuttle following her father's death. In high school, she was a member of the girls basketball team. After graduation, she worked for the Farmers Elevator as secretary-bookkeeper until her marriage to Robert Magstadt on Aug. 25, 1946, in Tuttle. Robert passed away on March 25, 1983. Florence continued to live on the family farm with her son and his family until the time of her death.

Florence was a member of the English Lutheran Church, Marie Circle, and WELCA, where she served as secretary. She taught Sunday school and served on the church council as well as serving on other community groups.

Florence enjoyed playing board games and cards with her grandchildren and other relatives. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, playing bingo locally, and had a passion for crossword puzzles.

Florence was a friend to all. She was kind, caring, compassionate and was always ready to do whatever she could to make someone else's day. She had a sharp mind and a quick wit. She kept her sense of humor right up to the end. She never wanted to be a bother to anyone. Florence was not a fighter until she needed to be. She fought a courageous battle with cancer, for as long as she could, and then bravely said, "Enough." She was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.

Florence is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tracy and Joni, Tuttle; her son-in-law, Ron Leno, Stevensville, Mont.; five grandchildren, Brooke and Drew Magstadt, Fargo, and Ronda, Ryan and Rob Leno, Missoula, Mont.; six great-grandchildren, all of Montana; one sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Maynard Wiesenberger, Tuttle; her sisters-in-law, Ruby Skogen, Wyoming, and Clara Vollmer, Bismarck; and many special nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert; her daughter, Roberta "Bobby", May 2003; four brothers, Lawrence, Alvin, Melvin and Ted; three sisters, Thelma, Evelyn and Joyce; and two half-sisters, Gylma and Jeanette.

Carol Skogen Haygood

Birth:  Nov. 27, 1948
Powell
Park County
Wyoming, USA Death:  Nov. 20, 2013
Cabo San Lucas
Baja California Sur, Mexico trans.gif
Services for Carol Skogen Haygood, 64, will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. at Bustard's funeral home in Casper, Wyo.

Carol passed on Nov. 20 with her family by her side while on vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Carol was born on Nov. 27, 1948, in Powell, Wyo., the fourth child to Mr. and Mrs. M.J. "Scoop" Skogen. Her family remained in Powell until 1951, when they made the move to Casper.

This is where she called home until her marriage to Michael Barnish. To this union a son, Bradley was born. The two were later divorced, but she always considered Mike a dear friend, and the two were always in touch.

As she moved forward with life, she was married to the love of her life, Robert Haygood. She and Bob loved to dance and could usually be found wearing holes in a dance floor, a living room floor or in the kitchen linoleum. A daughter, Lacey J., was welcomed to the family, and the family became four. Carol's children kept her very busy with their activities, and she was always their biggest fan. During rodeo season, she made the long hauls in the truck from rodeo to rodeo and could always be heard cheering from the stands come rain or shine.

Her two grandchildren, Brayden and Brayleah Barnish, brought love, joy and smiles to her each day. She was so proud of them and loved each beyond words.

She cherished her family and her friends, many of whom were adopted into her family as her own. She was always the first to lend a helping hand, and when the chips were down, you could always count on her. She was known to many as Mom, Grama Carol, Favorite Aunt Carol, Miss Carol and Magic Aunt Carol.

Carol and Bob were avid supporters of many rodeo associations. They were co-sponsors of the Casper Rodeo Club and The Ute Mountain High School Rodeo Team in Cortez, Colo. They were also founding members of the Four States Junior Rodeo Association, also in Cortez. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions be made to any of these organizations.

Carol was preceded in death by her father and two sisters Janette and Shirley. She is survived by her mother Ruby Skogen of Casper; husband Robert, two children Brad (Christy) of California; Lacey J. of Arizona; sister Kay Renick (Bob) of Grand Junction, Colo.; Kathy Halverson (Pat); brothers Craig Skogen (Patty); and Ted Skogen (Roxy) all of Casper; and her two grandchildren Brayden and Brayleah of California as well as several nieces and nephews.    Burial:

James Edmund Fischer was born on June 19, 1927, in Garrison, ND to Edmund and Regina (Burgard) Fischer. He grew up on the family's farm northwest of Garrison and was a 1945 Garrison High School graduate.

Jim married Colleen Posey on June 10, 1950. They had two sons. Colleen passed away on March 1, 1955. Jim married Elaine Geiszler on April 7, 1959. They have five children.

Jim was active in community affairs including, Civil Air Patrol, the Garrison Ambulance Board, Knights of Columbus and the Fort Stevenson Foundation. He was also a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison.

At an early age Jim took flying lessons whenever he could save enough money for them. He purchased his first plane, a Taylorcraft, in 1947, before he even had a car. He then purchased a new Piper PA-11 on February 4, 1947, and flew it home from the factory in Pennsylvania.

Jim also did some winter aerial hunting with the PA-11, with neighbors serving as the gunners. He bought a Pawnee 150 in 1966 and used it in his spraying business until buying a Pawnee 235 in 1991. Jim retired from spraying in 2001 but continued to fly his Mooney Mark 20 that he had purchased in 1967. He retired from farming in 1999.

John Arnold Hartwig

Hartwig, John Arnold age 86, born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, April 26, 1925, passed away 11/14/11. Preceded in death by father, Harvey C. Hartwig, mother Ruth Arnold Hartwig, sisters Elizabeth and Jean, brothers William and David. Survived by sister Edith, Littleton, NC, beloved wife of 59 years, Mary, children David (Becki), Ann Sakellson (Jeff), Paul (Lisa), Martha Ripon (Paul), Steve (Karen), grandchildren Erin, Guy, Jack, Elise, Maddie, Peter, Isabel, great-grandson Andre, and many nieces and nephews. He attended St. John's Military Academy in Delafield, WI, and upon graduation at age 18, volunteered for enlistment in the US Army. He served with the 84th and 97th Infantry Divisions and ultimately in the European Theater with the 9th Infantry Division serving in three campaigns: the Rhineland, the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge), and Central Europe. When the war ended, he entered Dartmouth College and then Dartmouth Medical School. He finished his formal medical education at the University of Minnesota, followed by an internship at Dartmouth. A return to Minnesota led to a four year fellowship in Orthopaedics at the Mayo Clinic and then an offer to practice with Orthopaedic Consultants, PA. He was later encouraged to develop an interest in cervical spine injuries, and was a pioneer in his field. He served as Chief of Staff of Fairview Hospital in 1969 and was an active member for 35 years. He was an original property owner in Vail, CO, and enjoyed skiing into his eightieth year. He helped initiate a tradition of skiing with a group of doctors from Fairview Hospital every year, and that tradition continues. He also enjoyed sailing on Lake Minnetonka, and playing golf and tennis. He was a man of the highest integrity, both professionally and personally. His kindness, patience, gentleness and humility cannot be surpassed. The family would like to thank the many physicians and nurses involved in his care. Memorials to Christ Presbyterian Church or the Fairview Foundation are suggested. Memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 21 at 1:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 11:30 AM at Christ Presbyterian Church, 6901 Normandale Rd. (70th St & Hwy. 100), Edina. Reception to follow at church. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Washburn-McReavy Edina
