Eksperthjelp med ein svensk/norsk huslyd? - Berglund

I can not remember why I thought my gg grandmother, Augusta Johansdatter (b. 1862), was from Sweden.  When I first started researching I didn't keep very good notes.  There still could be a record somewhere that shows her birthplace as Sweden, but so far I am not finding it again.

Olga Marie's baptism record in June of 1885 (birth in May):

SAO, Paulus prestekontor Kirkebøker, F/Fa/L0003: Ministerialbok nr. 3, 1879-1887, s. 300

https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/5812/313

The 1885 Census: Fosveien 19  (31 Dec 1885 - 1 Jan 1886) does not show Augusta Johansdatter:

https://digitalarkiv...rdseier=&page=1

RA, Kristiania adressebok (publikasjon)*, 1886, p. 415  does not show Augusta Johansdatter at that address:

Quick link: https://media.digita...b10061608110155

Olga Marie is listed as a foster child, with the Theodor Emil Jakobsen family, already in this 1885 census.  Augusta must not have kept her daughter, Olga Marie, for more than a month or so.

Olga was fostered out at such a young age that she would not have remembered her mother.

In Olga's confirmation record she is listed as a Jakobsen, but her birth parents names are given.  Not her foster parents' names.

In 1900, this is the same family that Olga is with on the 1885 census.  Here she is listed as Olga Marie Thauland (not Jacobsen or Olsen, etc).

In 1909, the banns for the marriage of Olga to Hans Christianson are read:

Source information: Oslo county, Paulus, Banns register nr. 1 (1902-1914),

Banns records 1909, no page no.

On the 1910 census she is a married woman, living with her husband and his family.  She has her first child, Einar.

On the 1920 census for Manchester, Freeborn county, Minnesota, USA Olga says both of her parents were Norwegian.

I am back to searching for clues to find the right Augusta Johansdatter in the 1885 census or the Kristiania adressebok (publikasjon) 1886.  I just don't know if there might be a clue as to which Augusta Johansdatter could be the right one!

Tusen takk for all of the help so far.  You all have been very, very good to help me find this lady.

So har eg fått ei ny melding frå den gamle kjenningen min i Arizona, som skriv følgjande:

«As an fyi...the correct Augusta has been found, her dad from Hede;  in 1885 as nicolaj johansen,  gamle akers;  hiding in plain sight;  ....I have a dna match with folks with links to a cremer family of that general area.   thanks to everyone for helping even if only a false lead(my error).    regards,  roger.    ps, as of today we have no idea what became of her...so the saga must continue;  and his 2nd oslo family has 6 kids...so kathy and I will have many cousins...and so it goes...»

I am not so sure that there is any confirmation that this is the correct Augusta Johansen.  The age is about right.  But there are many Augustas born about that same time.  Unfortunately there is no bygdebok or other record that could show who Augusta's father and mother were.  Maybe there were some 1885 foster records in a state archive or church books for the Jacobsens.  I don't know how else I could pursue "proof" of Augusta's family relationships.

Tusen Takk,

  Kathy

Kathy.
There exists books digitized containing information about children from Christiania put in foster care through 'Fattigvesenet' - the social services and children protection service of the time: http://www.arkivverket.no/arkivverket/Digitalarkivet/Om-Digitalarkivet/Om-kjeldene/Fattigvesenet-i-Kristiania

(From municipal archives in Oslo: Oslo Byarkiv.)
.
See the bottom of this page. "Serie Hd: Kontoret for utsatte, 3. avdeling"
You will find the names on every other page.

If the foster care arrangement was done privately, the children are not listed here.

Augusta b. 1863 is listed as lodger in this household. What sources are found to her birth and her father's moving to Norway and his earlier life in Sweden? Many of us subscribe to Swedish sources and can perhaps try to verify the right Augusta.

In your posting #26 you say:
"The 1885 Census: Fosveien 19 (31 Dec 1885 - 1 Jan 1886) does not show Augusta Johansdatter"

First sponsor in Olga Marie's baptism is kone (married wife) Gurine Kristoffersen and there is also a carpenter Ole Kristoffersen among them. This couple lives in Fossveien 19 in 1885, and Augusta must have lived with them when she gave birth to Olga Marie.

.

This is the right one.  I have not been able to understand who the sponsors/witnesses are or find out if they are relatives.

The other two sponsors are widow Anne Hansen and carpenter Martin Kristoffersen.

That is a brilliant connection.  Thank you so very much!!  I am so happy you were able to find that link back to the Fossveien address.  Maybe Gurine was a midwife or a supporter for unwed mothers.

I have received a .pdf-file with the text in protocol 12, but it seems this was a dead end.. There is nothing there to suggest she have had a baby. She was admitted to hospital due to a disease and got the hospital expenses covered. In connection with this help, she was interviewed about her background.

I'll translate what is written: "Augusta Johanneson was born in Botilsäter, Värmlands län 30/3-1862 by parents, blacksmith Johannes Eriksson and wife Lisa Andersson, baptized and confirmed same place and stayed with her parents in Herrestad in Botilsäter until the age of 18. She was in Bye parish in Södra Skarnet 1/2 year, then at home 1 year, in Sägerstad parish 1 year, once again in Bye 1/2 year, and then at home until 1/11-1884, and then worked here in the city (Christiania) as a cook for 'Statsconduktør' Bull in St. Olafs plass 1 until the hospital admittance. ..."  To the right is written Sweden 1/1.

I found this family in Sweden. Her date of birth is one day off, she is born the 31. not the 30.

I am happy to see there has been an active discussion of this interesting family, and I would like to call to your attention a message which I recently received which tells us that Augusta Johansdotter had a 2nd child in Christiana, born a couple of years AFTER Olga Marie.  This boy had a different father, but he was apparently raised with the same Jacobsen family.

Here is the contents of the message I have received (the sender has asked me to post it on her behalf...):

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oscar Gustav Jacobsen (f. Mæland), 9.9.1887–19.6.1959
Døpt 26.12.1887 i Paulus kirke i Kristiania:
https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/5419/32
Det står her at dette er Augustas andre leiermål.
De er bosatt i Toftesgade 39 ved barnets dåp, og her finner vi dem også ved folketellingen 1885:
https://digitalarkivet.no/census/person/pf01053257118700
Augusta er altså husholderske for enkemann Mæland og hans tre barn.
Foreldre: enkemann og malermester Erik Bernhard Mæland og Augusta Johansen.
Altså samme mor som Olga Marie Olsen Thauland (19.5.1885–30.3.1928). Hun kalte seg Jacobsen og ble gift i Oslo 1909 med Hans Alfred Kristiansen (Christianson i Amerika), 2.3.1884–7.8.1965, og emigrerte til Minnesota.
Da Olga Marie ble født i mai 1885 (en annen far – Augustas første leiermål) bodde moren i Fossveien, men hun er ikke å finne der ved folketellingen på slutten av dette året. Det er fordi hun bor i Toftesgate hos Mæland!
Oscar Gustav i folketellingen 1891 hos sin fosterfamilie.
https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/52721/150677
Tellekrets 247, husliste 12, personsedler 1–9.
Her er far Theodor Emil Jacobsen, mor Maren Oline (min slekt) og 4 av deres døtre. Så finner vi fosterbarna Olga Marie og Oscar Gustav (ofte skrevet Gustav Oskar). I tillegg et lite barn, Erland Thorbjørn Olsen. Dette er en uekte dattersønn (Jennys barn). Han blir bare halvannet år gammel.
Theodor er bakermester og kjøpmann. Disse ni menneskene bor på to rom og kjøkken i forhuset, andre etasje.
Oscar Gustav i folketellingen 1900 hos sin fosterfamilie.
https://digitalarkivet.no/census/person/pf01037045205929#
Oscar Gustav ble konfirmert i Sagene kirke 6.4.1902. Han er bosatt hos fosterforeldrene i Thorsenggaden 24 (i dag Vossegata på Torshov).
https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/3507/42
Oscar Gustav bruker også etternavnet Jacobsen som sin halvsøster Olga Marie. I 1910 finner vi ham i Tverrbakken 4 som bakersvenn. Han bor hos sin «(fosterfamilie-)storesøster» Therese Otilie Jacobsen, gift Lund, og hennes familie. De bor rett rundt hjørnet fra Thorsenggaten.
https://digitalarkivet.no/census/person/pf01036392161412
Gift med Karen Sofie Sundhagen, 30.4.1878–23.3.1969.
Hun kommer fra Rælingen (det står Rælingen når hun gifter seg, men Fet i folketellinger) i Akershus:
https://digitalarkivet.no/census/person/pf01037034003202
Viet 5. oktober 1957:
https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/3363/42
https://beta.nb.no/search?q=%22karen%20sofie%20sundhagen%22
De er da begge pensjonister, men bor sammen i Klingeberggaten 24 i Oslo. Ingen av dem har vært gift før. Trolig er det ingen barn, det er i hvert fall ingen indikasjoner på det når man ser dødsannonsene.
Gravlagt nordre gravlund i Oslo (grav nr. 22.032 – som er slettet):
http://www.begravdeioslo.no/resultat/name/oscar%20gustav%20jacobsen/year_of_death_uncertainty/1/sort_by_column/last_name/sort_order/1
Oscar Gustav blir ikke baker, eller er i hvert fall ikke det når han dør i 1959. Da er han «inngangsvakt». (OBS – disse sidene kan ikke vises om man ikke har en norsk ip-adresse …)
Thank you, Lars!  And many thanks to the person that put in so much work on this research.  I was very happy to wake up this morning and see such an amazing piece of work on Olga's foster brother.  All these years I had no idea that he was also her half-brother!!  I just assumed he was from another family somewhere.  Quite amazing!  I only wish Oscar Gustav had married a little younger and had children so that I could claim more wonderful Norwegians as relatives.  :)
I am also very pleased to find out that Augusta Johansen was still in the area, at least until 1891!
Augusta b. 11/11-1862 in Rölanda.
I have not seached for the family in later HFL,  but I found Augusta working in Hökedalen södra in Dals Ed AI:17 1876-1884 on page 170.
She came here (from page 162 Hökedalen sødra) where also her sister Mathilda was working) 14/11-1883 and she left for Norway 29/8-1884.
I am indeed very happy to see how you all appreciate the work that the lady who contacted me did on this family.  She wants to stay anonymous, which I do respect, but I will certainly forward your thanks to her!  A couple of days before she sent me the message, she called me, and she may have told me how she connects to the family, but I wasn't attentive enough to make a note of it...
As it happens a relative of the 11/11 Augusta thinks it cannot be her;  perhaps some records can be found giving that date..maybe her passing;  the 1920 census page is now posted on geni.com, gives birthplace as Dalsland so Rolanda seems right.  Perhaps someone can find a record not available on myheritage or ancestry?    I have changed geni to her view even though very doubtful.   Regards to all from the old confused as usual old guy.
