Hello, I am looking for information about Thosten Jorgensen, married in Tune -  Østfold 18/02/1790 with Marthe Sandersdatter, baptized in Tune 11/14/1756, whose family were users in the farm Lunde - Varteig, at least since 1640.  They had several children , among them, my fourth grandfather, Sander Thostensen, baptized in Tune 02/03/1794, married with Oliana Sandersdatter.

Attached marriage record between Sander Thostensen and Oliana Sandersdatter

Thanks

This must be the engagement, and the marriage (Feb. 18.) is listed in the second column: https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/7494/38036/12

The engagement his name seems to be Tosten Jørgensen Bjørnerøe, but Tosten Jørgensen Hjørnerøe in the marriage. I guess the minister must have misspelled it.

There was a place in Varteig named Hjørnerød: https://digitalarkivet.no/census/rural-residence/bf01058206003738 Maybe Brynild Jørgensen is Tosten's brother?

Brynild Jørgensen was baptised 20 Nov 1768, parents listed as Jørgen Rejersen and Anna Erichsdatter (same who is a widow in the 1801 census). In 1768 they seem to be living at Brusevold in Varteig (Hjørnerøe is located under Brusevold). See https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/7493/32, #60 on left hand side.

The same couple had a daughter Mari baptised on 3 Sep 1758 (15th Sunday after Trinity) in neighboring Rakkestad parish - see third entry on right hand side https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/5/26. I found this via FamilySearch - but they don't list any other children for this couple. The churchbook for Rakkestad has much worse handwriting than that for Varteig - may need to thumb through it to see if there is a Tosten there.

Interesting about Brynild since he can be a Thosten' s brother ,  but only the christening record would confirm it

I assume that the info you have on this branch in your family tree having been users of the farm Lunde in Varteig, may have originated from the book titled 'Varteig - en liten bygds historie fra gammel tid til våre dager', first published in 1956 by Olav Spydevold. If that's the case, you are also probably aware of the authors statement at page 439 where he mentions the marriage between Marthe Sandersdatter and Torsten Jørgensen Lundetangen, see the attached. The author does not give any source to how/when Torsten Jørgensen was connected to the farm Lundetangen, but it might be an avenue to continued search for info on your Thosten Jørgens.

I've skimmed thru church records for Tune 1750-1770 in search for a christening of a probable candidate Tosten Jørgensen without success. One candidate to being his father, Jørgen Rejersen, was buried in Tune parish Jan 1 1782: Jørgen Riersen Brusevoldeje, age 61 (# 6 at page 211)

Østfold county, Tune, Varteig, Rolvsøy in Tune, Parish register (official) no. 3 (1781-1796), Deceased and buried 1781-1782, Engaged 1794, Married 1794, Page 210-211

Thank you, indeed, this is the branch of my great-great-grandmother Gunhild Marie Sandersdatter, daughter of Sander Tostensen and granddaughter of Tosten Jorgensen Hiørnerød, who married with Marthe Sandersdatter, born in Tune in 1756. daughter of Sander ( Alexander) Gundersen Lunde, who had 2 daughters at who called Marthe, the first in his marriage to Lisbeth Andersdatter and a second, born in 1786, in his marriage to Anne Hansdatter

1.- BERTHE SANDERSDATTER   1755 - 1759

2.- GUNDER SANDERSEN   1759 - 1759

3.- MARTHE SANDERSDATTER   1756 - ?

4.- BERTHE SANDERSDATTER   1760 - ?

5.- GUNBJOR ( GUNNER ) SANDERSDATTER   1762 - ?

Hijos del Segundo:

6.- GUNDER SANDERSEN LUNDE   1768 - 1826

7.- HANS SANDERSEN   1769 - 1833

8.- MARÍA SANDERSDATTER   1777 - ?

9.- ELISABETH SANDERSDATTER   1779 - ?

10.- SIRI SANDERSDATTER   1782 - ?

11.- MARTHE SANDERSDATTER   1786 - ?

Jørgen Reiersen and Anna Maria Erichsdatter were married in Rakkastad 30 January 1753 - see near bottom of left-hand side at https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/5/86 (SAO, Rakkestad prestekontor Kirkebøker, F/Fa/L0003: Ministerialbok nr. I 3, 1752-1777, s. 91).

I have scanned the baptisms in Rakkastad from 1749 to 1768; there are maybe 20 Tostens there, but none of them the son of a Jørgen.

I also have not been able to find Tosten/Thosten Jørgensen, Marthe Sandersdatter, or Sander Tostensen/Thostensen in the 1801 census - Sander at least should be there, as he was born in 1794 and married in 1825 and thus was alive in 1801. Where they spending time in nearby Sweden?

Jørgen Reiersen was a widower when he was married to Anne Maria. In "Varteig - en liten bygds historie" is mentioned one Jørgen Reiersen from Bergby farm (born 1721) who was married 1751 to Johanne Clausdatter (1696 - 1752), the widow at Brusevold farm. This might explain why Jørgen and  Anne Maria lived at Hjørnerød (part of Brusevold)

We suppose that Tosten Jorgensen, belongs to the same family of Brynnild Jorgensen and his mother Anne Marie Erichsdatter, because he used the place name

Hiornerod", which is quite logical ... indeed, Thosten Jorgensen, neither his wife Marthe Sandersdatter, nor son Sander Thostensen are mentioned in the census of 1801, because they were not in the places where they should be...why?...I do not know

The couple formed by Jorgen Rejersen and Anne Marie Erichsdatter, married and lived in Rakkestad for a while, since at least they have a daughter born in that place...If Jorgen was a widower of Johanne Clausdatter, he did not stay living in Brusevold

This Jørgen Reiersen born 1721 correlates very well with the age given - 61 year old - when Jørgen Rejersen Brusevoldeje died in late 1781, chech the link above.

A short summary of early years of the children of Tosten Jørgensen and Marthe Sandersdatter might be helpful.

The twins of Tosten and Marthe, Erik and Lisbeth, were christened 24 Jan 1790, both at page 84

None of them grew up. Lisbeth was buried 26 Feb 1790, 14 days old and Erik died later same year and was buried 20 June, 21 weeks old  - both at page 231. Note that these siblings apparently were living at different farms at time of death - Lisbeth was living at farm Hiørnerød, Erik was living at farm Fosbæk.

Inger Tostensd Lundetangen, age 17 was confirmed in 1809, # 21 at page 462

Sander Tostensen Lunde was confirmed in 1811, # 28 at page 464

When searching for burials in Tune parish, I did not come across Tosten Jørgensen or his wife Marthe noted as dead and buried 1793-1801.

The interesting thing would be to find some record, baptism or confirmation that will determine that Thosten  Jorgensen is the son of the couple formed by Jorgen Rejersen and Anne Marie Erichsdatter, which is the most likely

Thanks to all for the help
