Hans Heliesen From Egersund In Rogaland

Hei!

Har fått spørsmål fra min kusine i Seattle hvor hun ber om litt hjelp, er det noen her inne som kanskje kjenner til denne familien i Egersund?

Limer inn forespøreslen slik Carolyn skrev den:

I am wondering if you can help me find some information for my friend, Doug. Doug's grandmother was Selma, daughter of Hans Heliesen from Egersund in Rogaland. Selma was born 19 March 1882 in Egersund and Hans was born 11 December 1860. Hans, his unknown wife and Selma emigrated to Canada in 1885. Most of the above information was provided by Doug or the 1901 Census in Canada. (The 1901 Census in Canada lists Hans' wife as Christine, Swedish, going to Canada in 1890 and only 32 - Hans is 40 and Selma is 19 - so it is very likely that she is a second wife.)

The problem is that I cannot find a church record for that time period on digitarkivet.

Doug would like information about Selma's mother - her name, birth/baptism record, parents etc.- her marriage, when they left Norway (everything I've seen here says 1885) and where they went (Quebec?). I think I may have found Hans' record in the 1875 Census for 1116 Egersund Landdistrikt (farm is Lædre, person #1966). It shows Hans Helges. son of Helge Svends. If that record is the correct one, Hans may have been a twin.

Hans' last name has appeared with various spellings - Helgesen, Helliesen, Hellison - mostly in Canada or the US.

Any information that you can find would be appreciated by both Doug and I. Doug is visually impaired so it is especially difficult for him to look at foreign records.

Thank you for anything that you can find!

På vegne av Carolyn og Doug, tusen takk for all hjelp

Angående fødested til bruden: Skadberg er en gård på Nordre Eigerøy ved Egersund, likeledes Seglem, hvor en av fadrene kommer fra.

And: The Hans Helgeson from Ledre mentioned in the beginning, is a wrong person.

Wow så mange gode hjelpere, Her er Carolyns svar på de første svarene.

Hi! Thank you so much from Doug & I. I will call him this evening and I know that he will be very excited to get this new information. Now I can do some more searching on my own! Tusen takk! Carolyn
