Hello,

i believe this info is what I have been looking for.

How can I get a copy of Jakob Iverson birth certificate?

And if there is any living family still in Norway?

According to this website (text in Norwegian): https://www.skatteetaten.no/person/folkeregister/attester-og-opplysninger/attester/type/fodselsattest/ a birth certificate can only be written out to a person that is born in Norway and that is or has been a registered citizen after 1946.

There is a mix of terms and items here....

Thore is right on "birth certificate" (Norw: "fødselsattest"), in present day practice.

Before approx 1946 (and actualy much later), a person's identity was certified by the baptism certificate ("dåpsattest") issued by the local

clergy of the parish where he/she was baptized. This will also be a "birth certificate", although the Norwegian term literally means "baptism

certificate".

The birth of Jakob in 1909 is recorded officially in the protocol (church registry) of which the link #2 shows a scanned image.

Jakob  - in his lifetime - could request for a document with an excerpt of the information in the registry. This is a "dåpsattest", which then can be

translated to a "birth certificate".

Sandra (or anyone else who is not Jakob) cannot get this certificate, however, a view and copy of the church registry, as seen above.

I enclose the official register (ministerialbok) - there's some more information (great if someone could transcribe) - # 74 - Rogaland county, St. Petri in St. Petri, Parish register (official) no. Here is Jakob Maldius in the 1910 Norwegian census: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01036615017310

He is living at Nytorvet 7 (the address given in the baptismal record) with Martha Jaasun (one of his godparents) and her husband Jakob Jaasun (who is the one who gave the information on parentage to the parish, per the parish book entry). Birth date is off by one year (1908 rather than 1909), and last name used is "Faaberg".

The address given at his 1924 confirmation is still Nytorvet 7, and that is still the address for Jakob Jaasund (see 1922 newspaper article at https://www.nb.no/items/479a374ef5e597f41c6fc61a7cc50dec?page=1&searchText="Nytorvet 7"). Thus it appears he grew up with his godparents rather than his (unmarried) parents.

Jacob Jaasund was a widower in census 1900 - https://www.digitalarkivet.no/census/person/pf01037252016884

His birth in census 1910 is 40 years off btw. !

Jacob Manlius Christensen Jaasund remarried Martha Michaelsen in 1903 - # 48 - Rogaland county, St. Petri in St. Petri, Parish register (official) no. A 24 (1900-1921), Married 1903, Page 29, Quick link: https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/kb20050902030527

I  guess; Magda was Martha's daughter - thus; Jacob Maldius grew up at his grandmother and step-grandfather 😉
