So now Christina has been identified as Andrew Hove's niece thru his brother!  It sounds to me like Martha must have died shortly after Christina was born, but unfortnately, as I also found out from other research in that area, records in Oregon at that time are very incomplete...

 

However, this saying about the 1893 marriage taking place at the home of Aslak Andersen and his wife, made me jump to the roof!  Could it be we are talking about the missing Anders Aslakson, and that the name had been «twisted around»?  Would this guy also be mentioned in the 1895 census?

At the time, he wasn’t in my main area of interest, so I did not pursue it further. I will share a copy of the document.

I fear we are never going to find out what happened to Anders Aslakson.  We must presume from the 1900 and 1910 censuses that he had indeed passed away by 1900, but only a great bit of «luck» will ever prove this...

 

On the other hand, in #1 I also had another question, which I don't think has ever been discussed:

 

«Ei bygdebok for Minnehaha Co., SD fortel oss at Andrew og Martha i 1880 flytte til Minnehaha Co., SD, men eg har notert at:

 

Andrew Johnson døydde i Crawford Co., WI 1.10.1884, og at

Martha Johnson døydde i Crawford Co., WI 7.6.1914.»

 

According to a Minnehaha County History Book Andrew and Martha moved in 1880 to Minnehaha Co., SD., but did they really?  If they realy did, they cannot have stayed very long...  Andrew died in Crawford Co., WI in 1884!?  Or maybe that information is an error?  Do you, Kurt, have an answer to this one?

Lars—I am reviewing what records I have found so far. In the 1880 US Census, as I believe you have already noted, four members of the family are listed as living together in Freeman, Crawford County, WI. The census is dated as of 25 June 1880. Sioux Falls, Minnehaha, SD has many old city directories online, but not sure when they began. I found one for Andrew Hove from 1898, but will look for older ones.

I believe your date of death for Andrew is correct—1 October 1884 in Fargo, Vernon Center, Wisconsin is correct. Martha is also buried there at South West Prairie Cemetery.
