Erlandsen and Mathisen in Chile

Hello, I am looking for information about the emigration of two people towards Chile: 1.- Oluf Erlandsen, professor (lærer), born 1853 and 2.- Lorenzo (Lorenz) Mathisen or Mattisen, mechanic, born in 1856-1857, both must have emigrated between 1876 and 1888 bound for South America (Chile)

Thanks, but these data I already had. I seek to know where these Norwegians came from (city), the year they arrived in Chile and, if possible, the name of their parents.

Oluf Victorino Erlandsen González, was the son of the Norwegian Oluf Erlandsen and Pascuala González, I think there is an error in the post of Emilio Erlandsen. Demofila Salinas married Oluf Erlandsen, born in Norway in 1853, it is possible that this was a remarriage, and it is the same Norwegian, Oluf Erlandsen, married first with Gonzalez and then with Salinas ... it is quite probable. ...

the first son of Oluf Erlandsen, Norwegian, born in 1853, and Demofila Salinas, was born in 1890, therefore it is impossible that she was married to Oluf Victorino Erlandsen González, born in 1879

I posted the information above, if they can be of help in identifying the two persons in question. If the marriage records could contain any further information on for instance the names of Oluf Adolfo Erlandsen's  and/or Lorenzo Mattisen's father. So far I have not been able to find any Oluf Adolf Erlandsen in the 1865 public census. It might also be that Erlandsen is the patronym of his father too. Lorenzo could be Lorentz or even Lars. 

 

At least the birth record (FamilySearch) shows that Oluf Victorino was the son of Oluf Adolfo Erlandsen and Pascuala Gonzalez. In 1899 he married Elena Petersen Canales. 

 

Then there is Emilio Erlandsen Salinas, born 1894, died 1944, and Elisa Erlandsen Salinas, born 1891, died 1865, age 74. When Oluf Victorino Erlandsen Gonzalez married in 1899, he was 25 and born about 1874. So he was only 17 years old when Elisa Erlandsen Salinas was born in 1891. As far as I can see, the name Erlandsen is the only possible link between these persons, but if so, what is the link here? Perhaps, as you suggest, that Oluf Adolfo Erlandsen was married twice? To confirm this, one would need to find the marriage record(s) for Oluf Adolfo Erlandsen. 

 

Did Oluf Adolfo become a professor after the arrival to Chile? Do you have any information on where he worked as a professor? Do you know where and when he died?

I think it is very likely that Oluf Erlandsen has been married twice, although until now I have not found any marriage record, but the dates allow me to think about it. In Chile, many names of immigrants were modified to adapt them to Spanish and therefore, I do not trust the records when it comes to immigrants. I have seen cases such as a person registered as Lorenzo Madsen, whose real name was Lars Madsen, therefore, I always look in the Norwegian archives. Chileans did not understand the patronymic system and it was common for the father to be added the same patronymic of the son, for example, my great-grandfather was registered as Kristian Pedersen, son of Pedro Kristiansen Pedersen

About Oluf Adolfo Erlandsen, I do not know more than what is in family search. In the first birth records of his children from 1890, he is mentioned as a merchant and later as a music teacher.
