Militærtjeneste - 18. århundre

Hallo,
Har noen informasjon om militære poster? Jeg tror at disse to unge mennene er min bestefar Olav Knutsson Rysstad (1877) og hans bror Olav Knutsson Rysstad (1879). Så antar jeg at dette bildet ble tatt på slutten av 1800-tallet eller kanskje i begynnelsen av det 20. århundre? Ved å se på deres uniformer kan du fortelle når de tjente og deres rangering? Hvis ikke, kan det kanskje være militære poster skriftlig som bekrefter deres tjeneste? Takk

I believe the photo is taken at some point between 1895 and 1900, before the Census 1900. Valle is in inland Aust-Agder, so the two brothers quite possibly served in the army, not in the navy. I´m not an uniform expert, so I can´t tell anything from the uniforms.

 

I found information and photos of the two brothers in Valle Kommune 1-2: Gards- og ættesoge Hyllestad (bygdebok) and  Valle Kommune 7-8: Kultursoge , see below. This information does not mention anything about  military service, so I´m assuming they both had a short spell in the army. The eldest brother was elected into the municipality presidency ("formannskap").

My guess is that the brother to the right, Olav Knutsson Rysstad (1877 - 1924), is your grandfather. The photo similarity is striking. This brother also had a child, Knut (born 1909), who married in Vancouver.
