Harald Severin Rasmus Trulsen

Katie Downward

Hi.

I am researching my norweigan ancestry and I can't find any of my family using this site. I am probably doing something wrong. My great grandfather was born in Christiana on 19.08.1866. He moved to the UK and lived aboard the William Yeo where he met Susan Hosking. They had 15 children and he died on board the SS Duckbridge on 22.02.16 when it was hit by a German mine.

His father was Rasmus Truls Thoresen (05.01.1839-1875).

His mother was Anne Petria Hansen (1833 - ?)

I'm hoping these details are correct.

Can anyone help??

Thank you

Katie

Wow, thank you. Is there anyway to find out who were Harald's brothers and sisters? Here in the UK we have a census every 10 years, where they list all of the residents of every address. Does Norway have something similar?

Thanks again 🙏🙏

Thank you so much 🙏🙏. I have now found out that Harald had a sister! I'm not sure if there were any more because his father died. I'm a bit confused with so many name changes but slowly the jigsaw is creating a bigger picture!

Harald Severin's mother and sister in census 1885

Anna (mother) - https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01053257099027

Anna (sister) - https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01053257099028

Thank you for your help. I'm so confused by the family names 🥴. Why did Anna's (sister) surname change from Thoresen to Rasmussen.

Incidentally, on Haralds war memorial, he is listed as Annie Rasmussen's son. Rasmussen was the surname he used in Britain and it was my mother's maiden name. 😊

I have tried to use this to find Anna Regina Rasmussen in a later census, also her mother. All times resulted in zero results. I tried the 1885 census too, which I've seen them on and again, it showed zero results. 😭

What is this document? Just a general census? It's hard for me to even use Google translate because the letters aren't always clear.

Thank you so much for doing this for me. I don't understand why I can access it.

It's a migration recorded in the church (parish) registry = they moved from Kongsberg to Fredriksvern 😉

I'm really not sure. He got married in 1890 at the age of 23. He had his first child in 1890 as well and his first official appearance in a UK census was in 1891. Over 21 years, he had 15 children 😱 and he died in 1916, when his youngest child (my grandfather) was 4.

I've been told that he started his working life on whaling ships in Oslo and I think he also lived aboard the William Yeo, where he may have met Susan, his wife.
