It looks like John Christian Christophersen remained in Norway, because he married in Sveio on the 26th of March, 1876 https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/7066/36966/12 Maybe he changed his mind, and did not emigrate after all (or returned, for that matter)?

In other words, it is unlikely that it is worth looking for him in the US to help us dentify Aslak (unless he emigrated later).

You are right about John Christian. But there is another "neighbor" in the passenger list: Anders Haldorsen Tjernagel (number 206). He is the same age as Aslak, and Tjernagel is very close to Nunslimyr in Sveio. They are listed side by side, so probably they travelled together?

Good find Ann-Mary. There is also a tree on Ancestry.com for this family. Same father for Sarah and same birth location but different birth date.

Andrew Knutson Anderson birth 19 Sept 1820, place Bergland farm #31  Ardal paris Norway.

Worth exploring with my usual disclaimer. Ancestry.com trees are very unreliable.

Sitat

I see from census 1900 it states he's not naturalized, however 1910 census states he was and the same for 1920 census where it also states he was naturalized 1880.

In all of the census' mentioned it states immigration year 1870.

...om årstalet er 1870, kan han ha surra rundt i Québec/Canada nokre dager før han reise vidare til USA?

...kom til Québec 29.6, vidare til USA 11.7?

...var det vanleg at dette gjekk raskare for seg?

As I can see, this obituary is the only source that states 1869 as the immigration year. The explanation can be as follows: When Aleak died in 1920 his wife, children or grandchildren probably did not have any written documentation of his immigration. Probably they have been told that Aleak was 19 years old when he came. They knew he was born in 1850, so they have deduced the year 1869. In fact, he was almost 20 years old. It was not unusual to say a certain age a few months before the actual birth date. If we can prove that Aslak and Aleak is the same person, then we have also proved that his immigration year was 1870. The date July 11, we also have no documentation of. Aleak himself can have remembered this date as the time he actually came to the US?

His name is found near the end of the list

Maybe this is Samson at the census in Forest, Winnebago, Iowa in 1880 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9YYB-3N2?i=10&cc=1417683&personaUrl=%2Fark%3A%2F61903%2F1%3A1%3AMDL5-4QP

Samson Aslakson Rødmyr could be S H Reygmyr, then presumably married to Inger and father of Betsey, married to Isaac Halvorsen. That would be the same states as his younger half-brother Aslak Lee

Isaac Halvorsen Self Male 24 Norway
Betsey Halvorsen Wife Female 23 Illinois, United States
Annie Halvorsen Daughter Female 1 Iowa, United States

S H Reygmyr Father-in-law Male 64 Norway
Inger Reygmyr Mother-in-law Female 63 Norway

Ok just got back to the computer and you all have been busy! (Thank you!!) I'm going to go through all this and try and summarize names that are out and ones that could be and try and answer any other questions presented.  I also have an appointment tomorrow at a FamilySearch.org center here in Missouri to try and find a copy of Aleak and Sarah's marriage license and will post what I find on that as well.

Eliminated?

-Hendik Vilhem Eriksen b. 29 Sep 1850, deserted ship in London in 1872.  (eliminated by Alex Lee's reported immigration ~1870)

-Alexander Andreasen b. 19 Jul 1850, eliminated by death in Nov 1880.

Possibles?

-Aslak Aslaksen Nunslimyr b. 27 Sep 1850, emigrated from Savanger, Norway on 17 May 1870. Half brother is Samson Aslakson? (is this same person as Aslak Asklaksen Nunslid).

I hopefully will find Alex and Sarah's marriage licence tomorrow and will also dig some more on a naturalization record and other documents listing birth date and birth place of Haugesund.

I also added Sarah Anderson's obituary which notes moving from Benton County in a covered wagon when she was 5.

A complicated family. I think that the person known as S H Reygmyr and is married toi Inger is not the same person as Samson Aslakson the half-brother of Aslak Alaksen (Alexander Lee) but they may be related, I think that S. H. Reygmyr is this person in the Iowa Census.
