As shown above the most likely candidate for Andrew Thompson is Andreas Tollefsen (Tallevsen ) born 28 Feb 1858 in Bergen. His parents are Tollef (Tallev ) Jørgensen Flække and Andrine Hansdatter Dorghelle. They were married in 1852 in Bergen and their  fathers are listed as Jørgen Tellefsen Flække and Hans Olsen Dorghelle. The end part of the name is the name of the farm at which they were associated with at one time or another. Probably lived there at some time.

Pushing your Family Tree back in time past Andrew takes a little digging and some guessing as well. The marriage record indicated that Andrine is from the farm Dorghelle (spelling can vary } located in the parish of Askvoll located in the county {fylke } of Sogn og Fjordane.

There is a Hans Olsen living at Droghelle in the 1825 Census for Askvoll and one of his children is a Andrea born about 1824. Probably this one.

Finding the other parent of Andrew Thompson (Andreas Tollefsen ) Toffef Jørgensen takes some digging as well. In some of the records from above he is listed as being from Holmedal which is a sub-parish of Fjaler a main parish in the county of Sogn og Fjordane.

Here the most likely candidate is

Tolleif Jorgensen

in the Norway, Select Baptisms, 1634-1927

Name:Tolleif Jorgensen

Gender:Male

Birth Date:5 apr 1828

Baptism Date:7 apr 1828

Baptism Place:Fjaler,Sogn Og Fjordane,Norway

Father:Jorgen Tolleifsen

Mother:Britha Andersdr

FHL Film Number:126387

Nr 40, the farm is Flække so that gives me some level of comfort that we have the right man.

Here is Tollef Jørgensen and his wife Andrine {using the last name of Jørgensen } in the 1900 Norwegian Census

So the parents of Jørgen Tollefsen are Tollef Jørgensen and Brite Andersdatter. Here is their marriage in 1815.

Jorgen Tolleivsen

in the Norway, Select Marriages, 1660-1926

Name:Jorgen Tolleivsen

Gender:Male

Marriage Date:29 jun 1815

Marriage Place:Fjaler,Sogn Og Fjordane,Norway

Spouse:Brite Andersdr

FHL Film Number:126387

Original record is in the middle of the right hand page. His farm name is Bjørdahl and her farm name is Flække.

A good possibility for Brite Andersdatter is Brithe Andersdatter born about 1790 and living on Fleche {Flække) in the 1801 Census.

Her parents are Anders Bendixsen and Anne Reinertsdatter.

A good possibility for the Jørgen Tollefsen in the 1801 is Giørgen Tollevsen born about 1796 with father Tollev Madsen and mother Pernele Bendixsdatter. The farm is spelled Biordahl. Probably the same as Bjørdahl.

Anton,

the farm name in the 1801 census is Biordahl (with an R), so it is undoubtedly the same as Bjørdahl in a slightly more modernized spelling.

Andrew was from Bergen and he immigrated to the USA in 1889.    Any information on Andrew and his family would be great as well.

Well Elaine, I think I have about run out of sources to take Andrew and his ancestors any further back in time.

Even my trusty Ancestry. com can not find a baptism record for Jørgen ( Giørgen) Tollevsen born about 1796.

Might be worth doing some searching to see if we can clarify the parents of Gyda and what the mothers last name really is. Here is the supposed parents of Gyda in the 1865 Census. This is prior to the birth of Gyda in 1868. Parents are Anders Nielsen born about 1830 in Adebo Parish and Marie Olsdatter born about 1833 in Sems Parish.

https://www.digitalarkivet.no/en/census/person/pf01038105001079

Here is what looks to be the same family in the 1875 Norwegian Census. This does include Gyda Elise. Parents are Anders Nilsen born about 1826 in Anebo Parish and Gunil Marie Andersen born about 1829 in Sem Parish.

Anders and Gunhild Marie Nilsen in 1900 Census

Here is the confirmation record of Gyda in 1883. Nr. 18.

Parents are Anders Nilssen and Gurine Marie Olsdatter.

A possible candidate for Anders Nielsen, born 19 Oct 1826, son of Niels Andersen Møiland, number 23 https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/8184/84317/18

Here is the wedding between Anders Nielsen and Gunild Maria Olsdatter, 7th of November 1852 in Tønsberg. He is born 19 Oct 1826, son of Niels Andersen Møiland and she is born 31 jan 1829 https://media.digitalarkivet.no/view/1278/8383/40

So there is no doubt we have identified the correct parents of Gyda Elise.

Thanks again for all of the help.     I got sidelined for a while.  A lot going on here in the states between politics, Covid 19 and So many other Difficult issues effecting our lives here.     But I am ready to get back to my project and spend more time learning about my family , heritage and the wonderful people of Norway .     I am touched by all of the people who took the time to respond to me with amazing information and proud to be of Norwegian decent.

a follow up.    I found the Facebook page of one of the cousins that are the disendents of Gyda that You were so nice to send to me.   I don’t have a FB account and therefore  asked a Dear friend of mine to try and connect But her friend request  was ignored.   I expected that to happen.   A stranger from the USA trying to “friend” is something most would not respond to .

Thanks again
