I am continuing my search for Marit Olsdatter from the 1801 Census

I have found this birth record from 1773

Father Ole is from Øverby

I tried seeing if Kiersti came into some of the same records, but no luck.

 

Is this obviously the same person, or obviously not?  Are the birth years too far apart to be the same?

When Marit and Embreth marry, he is from Øverby and she is from Hokstad:

Marit Olsdatter Hokstad is confirmed in 1791:

According to the Tylldal bygdebok, Ole Bersvendsen Øverby died in 1786, and his family probably didn’t stay at Øverby after this.

However, Ole’s widow was Kirsti Olsdatter from Aasen, and her sister Anne was at the time married to Ole Brynildsen Hokstad, so it is not impossible that Hokstad was where the family including Marit stayed around the time of Marit’s confirmation/marriage.

It would appear to me that both Marit and Embret were at Hogstad just two years before the Census.

Ingri Ols Dr ibid. – Ole Bryndjulsen ibid. og

Lars Knudsen Øvrebye. –

 

Not sure what this means, but there is a relationship between these two people, and these two residences.

 

I'm also somewhat confused by the two Øverby, and the many Hokstad residences.

Anne Olsdr and Ole Brynjuldsen (=Brynildsen) in the list could then possibly be Marit’s maternal aunt and her husband, who I mentioned above and who definitely were in Hokstad at the time.

I just ran into information on Geni that suggests Marit is the Daughter of Ole Arnesen and True Toresdatter  I see that he died in 1796 and lived at Hogstad.  True is still at Rural residence: 0006 Hokstad store* in the 1801 Census.

You are correct, this lineage is in fact supported by the Tylldalen bygdebok that I referred to. I expect this is the source of the geni info. Unfortunately it is not spelled out quite as explicitly as it often is, and in addition there was a typo, mixing the name of Embret’s wife with his father’s second wife, so I didn’t pick up on it straight away.

 

Unfortunately I do not know what the source of the bygdebok is for this connection.

 

Enga (18-1) is the property of Embret Knutsen and his father under Øverby.

I can't seem to find a birth record for Marit with father Ole Arnesen.  Enga would seem to be a strong link to my family, True appears to have ended up in Vefsn where my father's maternal family all came from.

If this proves out Marit' father Ole is Embret's father Knud's brother.  They were cousins.

This is the «skifte» (division of inheritance) after Ole Arnesen’s death (they got his last name wrong) from 1795, probably before Marit married Embret. It says that Marit is staying with/serving at Embret’s father Knut at Øverby
