Gjertrud Sivertsdatter Selbu, Sor-Trondelag - marriage or birth record

I am trying to locate several documents in the church books on digital archive for my Norwegian ancestor: Ole Johanssen Haarstad and Gjertrud Sivertsdatter. More specifically, Gjertrud Sivertsdatter.

I cannot seem to locate a birth/christening/confirmation record for Gjertrud Sivertsdatter. I cannot seem to locate Gjertrud Sivertsdatter wedding record either. Can you help me locate one or both of these records in your archives? I cannot read Norwegian, so I am guessing that there are a bunch of clues to where these records may be that I am missing.

I saw in the 1865 census that Gjertrud was born in Selbu parish, but I cannot find her birth record. I assume also that since their first child was born in Selbu that they were married in Selbu, but I cannot find their marriage record. I am hoping to locate one of these records so that I can find out the names of Gjertrud’s parents and grandparents.

Ole was born in Selbu, Sor-Trondelag: https://media.digitalarkivet.no/en/view/16312/83

Hi Trude. That is Ole Johansen the younger. There were two Ole Johansens in this family. Here is the link to the Selbu Bygdeboker for Ole Johansen

I am looking for the Ole Johansen the elder marriage to Gjertrud Sivertsdatter record or any record that identifies Gjertrud’s parentage.

Here's a longshot hypothesis about Gjertrud's seemingly missing birth record. From the confirmation that has been found (if this is correct), we know that her father is Sivert Jonsen. There's apparently no Gjertrud Sivertsdatter born in Selbu in 1811. (She could of course be from somewhere else, but let's assume she's not.)

However, in the 1801 census, there is a couple Sivert Jonsen and Gjertrud Ellevsdatter Øvrevig:

Gjertrud dies in 1803:

Widower Sivert remarries widow Anne Povelsdatter in 1810:

They have a daughter *Karen* in 1811:

From common Norwegian naming customs, the first daughter of a remarried widower is often named after his late wife (ie Gjertrud). Could it be that the name "Karen" is either a mistake made by the priest, or that Sivert/Anne somehow reconsidered this name later? It is indeed a longshot, and hard to verify, but the exact same thing happened to one of my ancestors.

Here is her confirmation in "klokkerboken":

SAT, Ministerialprotokoller, klokkerbøker og fødselsregistre - Sør-Trøndelag, 695/L1152: Klokkerbok nr. 695C03, 1816-1831, s. 534-535
Brukslenke for sidevisning: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070920650013

I read her parents names like this:

H.md. af Døde Sivert Jonss. Moder Ane Pauls Dat. (Husmand afdøde Sivert Jonsen, moder Ane Paulsdatter).

Brilliant Per, this makes my longshot hypothesis slightly more plausible 🙂

If her parents is the couple Sivert Jonsen Øvrevig and Anne Povelsdatter Mejum that married in 1810, this might be Anne with her 1st husband in the 1801 census:

Brilliant!!!! I have been researching the church books for the better part of a year following different theories. Only to hit brick walls. I knew there had to be a cultural/tradition reason for me not being able to find her information. You are both my heroes.

Follow up questions:

1. A previous responder posted this link

Gjertrud’s konfirmation in July 1826, 15 1/4 yrs. old:

Sør-Trøndelag county, Selbu in Selbu, Parish register (official) no. 695A05 /1 (1824-1842), Confirmation 1826, Page 245
Quick link: https://www.digitalarkivet.no/kb20070920640139

(N. 50)

Can you read the farm name and would it align with your theory?

2. This is the confirmation that Per posted:

what does the H.md af mean? As well, what does moder mean?

3. Is there a cultural or tradition that would explain why there also seems to be no wedding record for Gjertrud and her husband Ole Johansen Haarstad (the elder) in the church books that I can find?

1. The farm name is "Wiger" as far as I can tell. This could be related to "Øvrevig" ("Upper" Vig/Wig), where Sivert is located from the 1801 census until his marriage to Anne. However, Sivert and Anne seem to be at "her" farm Mejum for the birth of Karen/Gjertrud. Since Sivert is dead by the time of Gjertrud's confirmation, they might have been forced to move elsewhere. Also, I am not familiar with the names of the area.

2. "H.md" = husmann = a tenant farmer, one who does not own the land that he farms. "af Døde"= deceased. "moder" = mother

3. Nothing I can think of, unfortunately. Sometimes events slip through the cracks, though.
