I have a question about the information available in marriage sources. I am trying to find the parents and birthplace for two individuals, Hans Pedersen Berg and Marte Nilsdtr. Gierløv. Hans Pedersen Berg married Karen Martine Hiemdal in Domkirken Parish in Bergen on November 3, 1805. Marte Nilsdtr. Gierløv married Ole Anders.Rein in Korskirken Parish in Bergen on July 20, 1817. Neither source gives their parents or birthplace. Is this in the original sources?

Hans Pedersen Berg are well known in Bergen. He was from Askevold in S+Fj. You'll find him in "Examination board 1803-5 Bergen" as Hans Peersen, kiorer, and there his father too.

The Bergen marriage lists do not include the names of the parents, nor the birthplace, untill 1822. Alas.

Would birth records contain that information? His last child, Helene Petrine Pedersen, was born December 29, 1823 in Domkirken Parish. Would it list parents birthplace?

Wrong year, correct date is 29 des 1824: [url="http://digitalarkivet.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=n&filename=arkivverket/doep1816&variabel=5&postnr=40178&fulle=trueIn>Lenke both the marriages there are some difference in spelling compared to what you give :1805: Lenke Lenke guess would be that Marte is the daughter of Niels Olsen at Gierløv:

Sorry, Tor Amundsen. The correct dates for Helene Petrine is Dec. 29 1823, bapt. 1101 1824. It's the bapt. year you see as year in the list. Remember, it's from a church register, not a birth register!Hans Peersen (Pedersen) Berge was born in Askvoll 1781 and died in Bergen 1843. In Bergen he had horses and wagons. He bought the farm Øvre Ladegården (23-83) 1832, later named Mathismarken, because his son-in-law, J.N. Mathisen, bought it 1847 from H.P.'s widow for 1800 spd. Today we have Persenbakken (Persen hill?) in the same neighborhood.

Thank you all so much for your help. I did not know that there was so much information about Hans Pedersen. I am still puzzled about Askvoll because I have had a friend search her bygdebok, and she cannot find a Berg or Berge farm in Askvoll. Could this be in Kvinnherad?

If you look into 1801 census, you'll find 2 Berge (Indre and Ytre) in Askvoll prestegjeld (parish), but in Hyllestad sokn. Then you have to search in Hyllestad "bygdebok".But it's not in Kvinnherad. Kvinnherad is south of Bergen, Askvoll/Hyllestad north of Bergen.

Sorry about that year confusion, but it was really a minor point. My main point was to give a hint on Marte Nielsdtr who might be from 1206 Uhrland.
