[#1519] The timeliness of the 1865 census

Hello, Recently I found out that a great grandmother of mine had the name of Severine Monsen. She was born in 1857 in Bergen. However when I look for her in the 1865 census I do find a Severine Monsen but it lists her age as 5. Any chance this could be her? Could she have been counted in 1862 and not listed until 1865? Was the census, back then, very timely? Or did it take a couple of years to accumulate all of their data? Thank you for any help. Brent

The 1865 census includes all people that lived on an adress at the 31th of December 1865. The collection of the information did not take several years.There might be differences in age, +/- 2 years, between the cencus and the church-records. It is still possible that Severine Monsen at the age of 5 could be your great gandmother. To find out if she is the one, you have to find out who she lives together with in 1865, and see if that is the same as the parents listet in the church-records.

There is none girls called Severine with a father called Mons or with a surname Monsen in 1856-1858. If this is the correct couple they have four childs 1857 - 1867, but I can still not find them in Bergen in 1865.The girl you found in 1865 is probably this one born in 1861:
