I am helping a friend. We started looking for Syprian Amundsen Herrud. He was born 5 Oct 1825 in Aremark, Ostfold, Norway. He died 18 Jul 1896 in Fairbault, Rice, Minnesota. We have found that his parents are Amund Pedersen Fleviig and Johanna Johannesdatter Soeby. Amund was born 28 April 1793 and is the son of Peder Pederson Fleviig and Sidsel Nilsdatter Giolsioe. Johanna was born 19 Mar 1800 and is the illegitimate daughter of Johannes Olson Buer and Anne Joensdatter Buer. We found Peder and Sidsel on the 1801 census in Fleviig and some possiblities for Johannes and Anne, but nothing definite. Does anyone know anything more about this family? We are running into brick walls and would appreciate any help.Herr

Don't know if this will bring your research forward, but assuming that Anne Joensdatter wasn't able to make a living as a single mother with a small daughter at her side, a solution would be that she would let her parents take care of her. From this idea you will find one Joen Olsen at Røed Østre in Aremark. In the household there is agirl, Johanna Jonsdatter (1) said to be "their daughter", but judging from the parent's age, that might as well be a cover-up?

I case you haven't found Syprian Amundsen Herrud in the databases available through the Digital Archive, look at the following: Syprian can be found in the 1865 census for Aremark, Østfold County, farms name "Herrød søndere". At the time he's unmarried. The emigration record for Christiania shows that he emigrated in 1877 (June 29). According to the list, he was still not married at the age of 51, but what's interesting is the girl travelling with him, Karoline Olsdatter (29). The list strongly indicate that they were together. Syprian and Karoline apparently got married. They can be found in the 1880 census for Minnesota (Rice Co., Cannon City) as Sepprean and Caroline Amuson (not Amundson!). Have a nice day and good luck!
