Olaf Lyng f. ca. 1866 arbeidet ved Northern Trust i Chicago fram til ca. 1937. Er interessert i hva som eventuelt måtte stå om han i folketellingen for Chicago fra 1930, spesielt fødested, dato og navn på forledre om dette eventuelt står oppført. Hei Kirsti -Jeg har tatt en titt på folketellingene, og finner en Olaf Lyng boende i Chicago city.Han er 64 år gammel, gift med Gertrude, 62 år. Sammen med dem bor også hans søster, Marie Sundfar(?) (Vanskelig å lese).Samtlige er født i Norge. Immigrasjonsår for Olaf er uleselig, men Gertrude imm. 1891 og Marie i 1881. Olaf gift (1. gang) 30 år gml., og Gertrude 28 år gml. Samtlige er amerikanske statsborgere. Kun Olaf er innført med yrke (Occupation): Carpenter - (Industry): Bark.Ved 1920-tellingen har de sønnen Otto 22, f. i Ill., og datteren Glady(s) 17, f. i Ill.Håper det er de rette folkene.Mvh. I also found Olaf in the 1920 and 1930 censuses. I read his year of emigration as 1892. The industry is Bank -- Northern Trust is one of the biggest around here.It is helpful when giving census information from the U.S. to give the street address. It is also helpful to give the microfilm number (they are from the National Archives) the enumeration district, and the page number because then anyone can find the same information whether it's available online or in a library. This information is extremely helpful when one is searching for someone in the big cities such as Chicago.The 1930 census information for Olaf (and Otto, who lives 2 doors away from his parents) can be found on microfilm T626-473, enumeration district 1367, page 17B. The 1920 census information can be found on microfilm number T625-351, enumeration district 2053, page 9A.

Og var det kanskje Marie som bet. billetten til Oluf?

Hei Berit -Olafs alder er fra folket. 1930. (1930 minus 64 = 1866.) Dette stemmer jo også helt med den Oluf Lyng som var 26 år da han reiste i 1892. Ellers kan alderen ved folketellingene variere noe, slik som her. Ved ft. 1920 er Olav innført med alder 52.Om Marie var gift med Rolf eller Iver Sundfer tør jeg ikke si, men det kan jo virke slik. Jeg må da se på f.eks. folket. 1900 som er uten register, og det får jeg ikke tid til i kveld. Jeg ser at det bor en Marie Sundfar som 65 år gammel enke i Cook County ved 1920-tellingen. Får ikke tid til mer nå, må hjelpe kona å tapetsere. :))Mvh. Arne.

The online Illinois marriage and death indexes (on the DA's links page) give some more information. For Marie Lyng, her marriage to Iver Sundfar on 10 October 1885, Cook County license 96288. Their deaths are: SUNDFAR, IVER, age unknown, certificate number 6010946, date of death 13 April1918 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois SUNDFAR, MARIE, age unknown, certificate number 6034820, date of death 7 December 1936.There are some other Lyng marriages on the online index that may apply to this family. The Otto Lyng marriage to Agda Josephine Anderson on 7 June 1889 is especially curious. And I think Kirsti may find some more members of Marie's family in the other Sundfars on the death index.And I better practice what I preach and add now the address I forgot to give before -- in both 1920 and 1930 Olaf's address was 4544 Nevada Street in Chicago.

Takker hjerteligst for opplysningene så langt. Kom et skritt videre ved at jeg fant ekteskapsinngåelsen mellom søsteren Marie Lyng og Iver Sundfar i Cook County 10.10.1885. I folketellinga 1875 for Trondheim står Marie oppført som født i Verdal, og da burde det gjenstå å sortere alle ved navn Marie og Oluf/Olaf i Verdal for å se hvem av disse som forhåpentligvis har samme foreldre. Mysteriet er oppklart. Søket etter felles foreldre for Marie og Oluf/Olaf gjorde utslaget. Olaf Lyng er ved dåpen innført som følgende: Bernt Oluf Olausen (Lyng). f. 06.03.1866 i Verdal, foreldre: Olaus Olsen f. 30.11.1821 i Verdal og Beret Pedersdatter f. 07.01.1821 i Verdal. Informant was Sigurd Sundfar of 5537 Warwick Ave. Buried Acacia Park/Norwood Park/Chicago. John M. Pedersen FH. Married 51 years. I've ordered film of Ivar. Roger.

Hi Roger,I'm now looking at the 1930 census for Chicago, which a friend sent me as a jpg. file. Olaf Lyng is living at 4544 nevada Street, with his wife Gertrude, and his sister Marie Sundfar. At the time Marie Sundfar is 75 years old, which correspond to the information I already have. When looking at the church records for Verdal, Nord-Trøndelag, Norway, I found her as follows: Marie Birgitha Olausdatter dob. 14 Dec 1851 in Verdal, christened 29 Feb. 1852 in Verdal. Parents: Olaus Olsen (Lyng Nordre)dob.30 Nov 1821 in Verdal and wife Beret Pedersdatter, dob. 07 Jan 1822 in Verdal. Marie immigration year is stated to 1881.If possible could you forward the information on Ivar/Iver as I don't have any apart from being married to Marie on 10. Oct 1885 in Illinois. The film will take several weeks, but now you need to obtain death certs of Sigurd Sundfar, b 22 aug 1886, d nov 1966 in Chicago; and his wife(?) Lillian, b 24 may 1887, d Nov 1973 in Chicago; all per ssdi--these are the only Sundfar in the ssdi. The certs will give the day, then obits are easier to find. Order from Cook county-use a search engine to find-or i can recommend someone who charges $11 each. Roger.

I received the 1930 census on Illinois this afternoon. At 5507 Warwick Avenue: Sigurd Sundfar, age 43, age when married 29, occupation draftsman, business steel. Agnes Sundfar, wife, age 45, age when married 31. Robert Sundfar, son, age 13. ? Sundfar, daughter, age 7. I was not able to read her Christian name. All 4 born in Illinois. Parents of both adults are Norwegian.

Hi- i need someone to 'sum up' in English--perhaps Kathy will will suggest what i might 'look up'? I've found all the Sundfars in the IL index. The Daughter is Shirley, i've not found her or her brother; but will order obits/notices for the bunch, perhaps they will be mentioned. Marie/Iver had at least 4 children, including Sigurd, who was born 1886. Arne was born June 18?, 1895, living at 9450? Howard, single, died May 15, 1921 of TB. Was a draftsman, machine shop, Kling Bros. born Chicago to Iver from Throndhjem and Marie Lyng of Throndhjem. informant was Sigurd. buried Mt. Olive, Pedersen, undertaker.

Another child was son Oscar B. born Nov 19, 1890. was living at 4744 N. Kildare Av, died March 30, 1919 of TB. Single. Draftsman at Chgo Mil St Paul RR. born Chicago to Iver and Marie Lyng from Throndhjem. informant was Sigurd. Buried Mt. Olive; Pedersen, undertaker. Also another child: Minnie Irene, who died May 7, 1919-i've ordered film for her cert. Iver is buried with them, 1 lot and large headstone. Roger.

There are 4 Sundfar's in Acacia Park Cemetery: Marie as i've already reported and Sigurd and both his wives. I've ordered film only for Agnes, the first wife, she died April 12, 1942. Sigurd was born 22 Aug 1886 and died Nov 2, 1966. His 2nd wife, Lillian, born 24 May 1887, died Nov 10, 1973. The Iver/Marie marriage was by Pastor Torgersen, i can get a photocopy of the church book for that, if you wish. Roger.

Census 1865 for Inderøy, Nord-Trøndelag, at farm Sandvaagen: Sivert Andersen, age 38, born Inderøy, wife Bergithe Johannesdatter, age 39, born Inderøy, son John Andreas, age 12, born Inderøy, son Iver Anthon, age 10, born Inderøy, daughter Maren Anna, age 1, born Inderøy, Anders Christoffersen,grandfather, supported by son, age 88, born Sparboen, married. His wife is living somewhere else. I have tried to search Anders Christoffersen in the census 1801 at Sparbu/Sparboen with no luck. I do think Iver Anthon age 10 is the one known as Iver Sundfar. Robert has died. From ssdi: Shirley A. Small, 12 May 1923-22 Nov 1999, Zip 60565,Naperville,DuPage,IL. So i will try the Trib online..her notice should mention the daughters. Roger.
