Christian Hansen and konen Elen Marie Gundersdatter had a datter named Christine Hansdatter born in 1861. Did this Christine leave Norway in 1882? Did she stay in Norway? That's the problem, she has a quite common name. Have you tried Ellis Island? They have a searchable database, I think it's [url="http://www.ellisisland.org>http://www.ellisisland.org If that doesn't work, just type Ellis Island in

Kjellaug, I do have a copy of the emigration log showing Christine Hansen signing on to emigrate in August 1882. She lists Kristiansand as her home. The problem is a couple of deceased relatives said that she 'changed her name' to Hansen when she left Norway. Other relatives said no she did not. She died in 1885 in America. The records here for that time do not exist. The 'name' that she may have had may have been Ludvigsdatter before she changed it to Hansen. That is why I have also posted the Christine Ludvigsdatter question on the Digital forum. Are there church books at Kristiansand that may show she was leaving? Are there any bygdaboks for Kristiansand? Mange takk for all help.
