[#26227] Marthinus Evensen in Stange, 1900 census

I'm tracing Marthinus Evensen who is listed in the 1900 census in Stange, Hedmark on the farm Strandbakken. I have the Stange Bygdebok, but I can't find a farm with that name. Marthinus is born 1845 and his wife Oline Kristiansdatter is born 1846. What am I doing wrong?Robert Evensen Cambridge, Massachusetts USA

Thanks for the information. I did not know that. I had always assumed that it was complete. I found a farm called Strandbakken in Brøttums which isn't too far away from Stange, but I don't know if it is considered part of the 1900 Norwegian census for Stange.Robert

Brøttum is guranteed not a part of Stange in the cencus. Stange is south of Hamar, Brøttum further north. It's more likely as suggested, a smaller place under a farm. Probably, as Berit says, Sinnerud. Often smaller places are mentioned after the main farm in bygdebøker. Lena

Thanks Lena. I guess I jumped to conclusions. I found in the Hedmark Slektshistorielag, Register til Brøttumsboka - Strandbakken, s. 499. I assumed that Brøttum was a part of Stange. But I was wrong. I'm just not very good yet on Norwegian geography, but I'm learning! It is difficult getting a grasp on farm names and especially when people moved around so often. It is hard to trace where they went. Not understanding Norwegian doesn't make it any easier.Hilsen, Robert
