Many thanks for your response and the information contained therein. The details re: my grandfather were taken from the marriage certificate of my mother, Irene Nicol (Scottish)(aged 19) and my father, Karl Kristian Karlberg (Norwegian Royal Navy)(aged 30) dated 20th March 1945, in the marriage registry of St.Giles Parish, Edinburgh, Scotland. It is written in longhand script and I consulted an online microfiche of the original document. In the marriage certificate there is a section for providing details of the marriage parties' parents.Although Kragero is clear as the town of my grandfather's residence, the world after Kragero, 'Banen' with a capital B, is unclear.Similarly, the address of my grandfather is given as,as far as I can decipher the script, Tarya (?) 'Street' although I appreciate that this sounds like Greek (or Abyssinian or perhaps Martian)to a Norwegian! The name of my grandmother,Colette Karlberg is quite clear, although her maiden name, which seems to be Harbin, is again a little unclear.I hope this information can take this enquiry a step further.Your help is sincerely appreciated.Erling John Karlberg

Colette Harbin sounds French/English to me. No use of the name Colette in Norway at that time, I think. Using the mormon database (FamilySearch: Lenke the only Harbin in Norway seems to be wrong written instead of Harbitz. Many Harbin in the British Isles though. But you are searching Karlberg in Kragerø, and it is to hope that someone LOCAL shows up here!

Hi Arnstein, Lill Ann,Many thanks for your invaluable assistance. I believe that the entry from the Slektsregister for Dragendal is fairly conclusive - especially the 'Olette' (Colette as I read it) in my grandmother's name, as well as the date of birth of my father, Karl of Nov.1914 which made him 30 yrs. old on the date of his marriage( 20th March 1945). Regarding the marriage certificate of my grandfather, is there a column for job or profession ?The other point is that it would appear that my grandfather’s family is from Sweden and my grandmother from Norway. Thanks Arnstein for the data on her family. Do you know how I could proceed to find the Swedish forbears of my grandfather? Also, could you advise the procedure in Norway for me to obtain an officially recognised copy of this information, in particular the marriage certificate of my grandparents, and the birth and death certificates of my father, Karl, who died in 1981.Sincere regards,Erling

It is written a 'bygdebok' (local history book/familybook/farm-book) for Sauherad, called 'Bygdebok for Sauherad' by Birger Kirkeby. You can reach the local 'history-club' here: [url="http://home.no.net/nneri/>http://home.no.net/nneri/Nissedal bygdebok is called: 'Nissedal bygdesoge'.Drangedal: 'Drangedal bygdebok'Here is the register of Sannidal bygdebok: http://home.online.no/~kjendal/register.htmlYou may start new queries asking for someone to look up your ancestors in those 'bygde'-books.And here is a place to look for Swedish roots:
