Is anyone familiar with this family or surname? Brevits/Brevitz/BrewitzThe family I am trying to trace is: Einar Kasper Brewitz born about 1873 in Kristiania married Alma Karlson from Hurum, Buskerud.This is the family when they came to the US. The first settled in Chicago and then moved to Michigan. In Pommerania (Pommern) in North Eastern Germany a very large number of village names en on -itz, most families in Scandinavia with such names originally came from that area.

I want to THANK both of you very much for your help. I did find a birth record for Einar with Johan Brevitz and Gunnild Marie Olsen as parents b. Oslo. I also found the marriage record for Malene who is Einar's aunt and listed in both of these census records that was linked for me to check. This all fits together and this is definitely the family in Norway and they came from Germany. I am so greatful that you both helped me with this family. Thank you!

Malene Brewitz was my mothers grandmother. Malene's father Johann was born in Rostock, Germany 1809. He married Jørgine in Stavanger, Norway about 1840. Johann and Jørgine had 4 children: Ole Johan born 1848, Elias born 1850, Jørgine Fredrikke born 1858 and Malene born 1853. Neither Elias or Jørgine Fredrikke had any children. Ole Johan and his wife Gunhild Marie did also have atleast 3 children: Olaf born 1870,Einar Kasper, and Johan Petter born 1879. Malene and her husbond Olaf Christian did only get one child, my grandfather Bjarne,born 1891. If you want more information, please contakt me. beahell@online.no
