I'm researching my Grotte family and have received varying information from different people here in the US. Not all of the information and spelling is consistent. I've been getting all my lines mixed up and need to get them straightend out. The trouble I seem to be having is that cousins must have married cousins and I've gotten alot of the information mixed up.Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Here is the basics of what I have. I have alot of information on the family of Peder and Guru (Grotte) Johnson here in America, trying to get every child's line complete. 1. Tomas 2. Eric Tomasson Grotte 1644-1712 married to Gunhild/Gunel 3. Thomas Ericson Grotte 1703-1759 married to Karen Andersdatter 4. Per or Peder Thomasson Grotte 1736-1808 married to Marit Haldorsdatter Berge 5. Haldor Person Grotte 1770-1854 married to Marit Johnsdatter Sandvik 6. Per or Peder Haldorson Grotte married to Mali or Magli Kristensdatter Stor-Evjen (she came to the US) 7. Guru Pedersdatter Grotte November 29, 1836-August 6, 1929 married 1860 Per/Peder Johnson Grotte October 17, 1834-December 9, 1918 (both came to the US) 8. Sigrid Sarah Johnson married Lewis M. Olson 9. Inga Caroline Olson married Ole Knute Fostervold 10. my dad parents 11. myselfThank you, Nancy F.H.

Nancy!I believe you will find most of the info you're looking for about the Grøtte farms ('Grøtem' in local terms) at 'selbunet.no'. Volumes of 'Bygdebøker for Selbu' are available on the Net and luckily for you, the Grøtte farms are included. In case you don't read norwegian, I'll gladly volunteer to make the proper translations. There's too much to be presented here, but I found this under Elvabakken (property 11/5):Guru Pedersdatter (b.1836)and Peder Johnsen (b.1834) where cousins. They where married in 1859 and in 1863 they built a house on a section of Grøtte/Nerigarden (Elvabakken):However, the family emigrated in 1868 and settled in Minnesota. Three children are named:1. Siri/Sigrid, b. 1859, m. 1881 to Lewis M. Olson from Eiker in Buskerud. Children: Martin Alwin, b. 1882, d. 1898, Georg Peder, b. 1884, Inga Caroline, b. 1886, Emma Marie, b. 1889, Harry Adolph, b. 1891, Lillie Sophie, b. 1893, d. 1898, Anton, b. 1896, died in childhood, Alfred Melwin, b. 1897, Alwin Oscar, b. 1900, Anna Sophie, b. 1902, died in childhood, Morris Albert, b. 1903. 2. Mali, b. 1862. 3. John, b. 1865.Regards Kjell Hamberg (khambatonlinedotno)

Anne, I have it that Joseph came to America went by Joe or John.(1868 50 18 646 11.05.1868 12.05.1868 John Peders. Søn m 0,75 Selbo Qvebek T. M. Moe Neptunus-from the digitarkivet)At one point I remember that I had both a Joseph and a John on my list but removed the John as I thought they had to be the same person. Joe never married and lived in Bowman, ND. I'm sure I have a picture of his little shanty in Bowman and his death cert. Are you also on the Norway or Tronder list? Your name sure is familiar.Nancy F.H.

Hi Nancy,I am both and we sure have connected before. I'll pick up possibly your email from there and send you what I can find. have to be in the weekend though.Guess it is possible that there has been a mixup, by the child changing name and those at home, not picked up on it and given him as 2 instead of just one. Anne
