Could anyone please tell me if there is a church book for Skiptvet? Is there more that one church that has records from the 1800s in Skiptvet? Does anyone have the new Skiptvet bygdebok? I am looking for Augen Amunds.b. 1817 married Karen Thorkildsd. b. 1812 who lived on the Solberg (Dalen) They were married 15Jan1840 in Skiptvet. Thank you kindly for your time.

There is only one parish in Skiptvet, you can see the church books that are filmed here: LenkeThe bygdebok hasn't been published yet, but they are hoping that it will be ready by the fall of 2006... If you (or anyone else) can't wait, you can contact the bygdebok comittee - try an email to the library, bibliotek@skiptvet.kommune.no - the committee are meeting there every Thursday.

I can`t find Amund, but there is a Karen Torkelsdatter who was confirmed October 22nd, 1926 - born March 4th, 1812, daughter of Torkel Christensen and Mari Jonsdatter. Could this be the the right person ?

Thank you so much for the church record information. Yes,I have found some information on Family Search. Would it be possible to find a confirmation record for Johan Augensen b. 1849, son of Augen Amundsen and Karen Torkildsdatter in Skiptvet? We are trying to find out if he is the same Johan A. who came to Wisconsin, USA in 1873 and took the name John Solberg. He was Christened 26 August 1849 in Skiptvet according to Family Search. Thank you again.

Unfortunately I have not got the church record for the period when Johan was confirmed. But August 6th, 1873 there was a Johan Audunsen, born 1849, that emigrated from Skiptvet to America. (Surname difficult to read, but there is a 'd' - not a 'g'.)

I am almost sure you have tried this, the 1865 Skiptvet census . From my search this is the only Johan Augensen in Skiptvet at the time. And there is no Johan Oudensen or similarly. I am afraid neither do I have the church record you want. Lenke

Thank you. For our records could you please tell me the name of the record where you found Johan's date for leaving Skiptvet? Am I correct in assuming that Johan most likely left Skiptvet and went to Oslo where he boarded a ship on a different date? I do not find him in the emigrant records there. Do you think he sailed out of a different port? Tak

According to the church book of Skiptvet 1867-1877 on page 185 (No. 3 1873) Johan Audensen was registrated as an emigrant from Skiptvet June 6th, 1873. As far as I can read his birthdate was August 8th, 1849. (The date is difficult to read.) I do not know why he does not appear in the emigrant records - perhaps he left from another port, for example Fredrikstad that is not so far from Skiptvet.

There may be at least two reasons why you cannot find him among the emigrants that left from the port of Oslo. That he left from somewhere else or that he is among those who are missing from the lists. Documentation in the emigrantdatabase says those who went by sailingship are not in the database.
