I am looking for 2 sisters who came to the U.S. from Rogaland County, Norway. I don't have the name of the farm. Bertha Peterson came here in 1899 and her sister Carine Peterson came here in 1905. I believe they went directly to North Dakota.Bertha was born Aug 1881 and Carine was born about 1878.Thanks.

I was just informed that Bertha and Carine both were born in Bergen, Norway. I hope that this helps in tracing their parents.Thank you.Mausey

It's nice to be able to help-:) I've got so much help here myself. You'll find something on Ancestry Com. about Peder olson Kallekleiv and his wife Britha Monsdr. But as it's not been copied from original records, it ought to be verified: [url="http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/IGI/individual_record.asp?recid=100117137875&lds=1®ion=12®ionfriendly=Norway&frompage=99>Lenke

But if Bertha came over in 1899, how can she be in the norwegian 1900-census?And where do they have the Peterson name from, if they where daughters of Ole Rognaldsen? Are we sure we have the right people?

Hi Jan,Bertha is on the 1900 U.S. cenus in Buxton, Traill County, ND. She married John T. Hagen in 1901 and died in the 1918 flue epidemic leaving 4 young children. Her obituary says she had a sister. Carine Peterson (Pederson). They didn't say anything about another sibling in the obit but they did mention her parents (no names or where they were living).I wasn't worried about the Peterson name as so many people changed their last names when they came over and I saw that her mother's name had Pedersdatter in it. She was here in 1900 though.Perhaps we do not have the right family. Thanks Jan. I will continue to look.Mausey

Hello Jan,I decided to find Bertha again on the 1900 census and she is living Caledonia, Traill County, ND. It shows she was born Aug 1881, single, came here in 1899 and is working as a servant. It shows she was born in Norway as well as her parents. The census was dated June 14, 1900. So she could have come here earlier in 1900. Would she have been listed on the 1900 Norwegian census? In 1910 Carine Peterson, born about 1878 (age 32) living in Buxton Township, Traill County, ND. It shows she immigrated in 1905, was born in Norway as well as her parents. In 1910, Bertha is married to John T. Hagen and has 2 children - Beatrice and Palmer. She had been married for 9 years and it shows she came here in 1900. The census is dated April 25, 1910.In 1920, it shows John T. Hagen as a widower with 4 children. I found her obituary and it shows she died in November 1918.I hope this helps to find her family in Norway. Thanks for all the help I have been getting.Mausey

Maybe you ought to find her exact immigration records. I found one Bertha Pedersen in the Ellis island records, but she went to a brother (Lars Pedersen, who'd paid for her passage) Lenke

I've checked further on this person, but it can't be her, she had no sister called Kari/Cari and married Bernt Magnus Hansson. They were both from Bômlo (not too far from Bergen).I've checked the emigration records from Bergen and found no other Bertha in 1900. I didn't find any Cari/Kari(n/e) in 1905 either. Maybe they left from another port?
