In a Konf. record from Eidsvoll it reads---Konf. Langset 18.10.1868, f. 'Gjæraseie', b. Furlulnd. Could someone please tell me what this means? Takk to all of you for your kind help.

'Gjæraseie' indicates that this person was born at a part of the Gjæra farm, '-eie' are used to state that this is a part of the farm operated by a cottars family. 'f.'(fødested) means born at, 'b.' (=bopel) means living at.

So on the map where I see Hjera, is that an area where the 'Sørenstua, plass under Negarn Hjera' whould be and is Sørenstua the farm? Another question is: My grandfather was born on the Heiretheie farm. The following was written about him. 'When he was small about in 1863, he and two other lads set off on an adventure. The little boys were playing in a boat. He did not remember how they got carried out to sea, but recalled that they were highly pleased and happy with their boat ride. A barge boat came along and picked them up out of the water and saved their lives.' WOULD THERE HAVE BEEN A WATERWAY THAT LARGE NEAR HJERA? Thank You

I went Hjera skole (school) for the primary. It is in the small place called Dal in Eidsvoll. Dal has a railway station and can be found in map databases. The river is called Risa. It joins Andelva which flows north to Eidsvoll. The farm Hjera is a bit north from the school, closer to the next station, Bøn.Niels

Sørenstuen (Søren's house/cottage) was a cottager's little farm/place under Nedre (lower) Hjera. A cottager at Hjera farm who probably lived here Ca.1820 was Nils Kristofferson. His successor was his son (?) Kristoffer Nilson (from Bønsdalen). He got a cottager's contract in 1848. His wife was Inger (died in 1857- 50 years old). Kristoffer was followed by Kristian Torjusson, married to Kari. Their children: Edvard, Oline, Marie, Anton. Rendered from Eidsvoll Bygdebok. Ola.

Mange Takk, Kristoffer Nilsen is my g-g-grandfather. Do you think he is the same Kristofer Nielson age 6 whose father is Niels Kristophersen age 50 who is living on the Korslund. Øvre. farm---Ejdsvold Prestegjeld, Ejdsvold Sokn, Aggershuus Amt. in the 1801 Census? My g-grandmother was Raghnild Marie Christophersdtr b. 1832. She married Andreas Andersen b. 1831/1835. It is Andreas who is my mystery. He came to Wisconsin in 1871, but I have not been able to find his parents in Eidsvold. He supposedly had a half-brother, Anton Anderson who also came to Wisconsin---also a half-sister Maren Anderson b. about 1858. I have found Andreas on a few christening records as father and sponsor. They lived on Kroken, Vestenga Haugen in 1865. He took the surname Berger and he worked on the Berger Bruk. It was said that maybe his father was killed by a bull while walking across the pasture on his way to church and that the bull did not know his Sunday clothes. Mary Ellen

I have lived in the area and I can remember a child who drowned in the creek Risa. Both Risa and Andelva are big enough to be dangerous. And Andelva was surely used for transport with barges.
