As Arne writes above, Beladin at the WW1 registration must be Belatincz.I have a feeling after some googling in Slovenian and Hungarian webpages (site:.si or site:.hu) that Andras Szlavecz is a magyarization, and that names like Andrej and Slavec give more hits on Slovenian webpages. The Hungarian version would probably be the correct spelling in old source documents, while a Slovenian version might be useful when trying to find Slovenian relatives.

There are many Szlavics who arrive in New York between 1906 and 1908... almost all of them individually, rather than in groups, and many of the locations given are in this Prekmurje area. Another grouping came around 1914. They seem to universally refer to themselves as Hungarian, and the place-names reflect the Hungarian exonyms for the Slovenian places. I should probably be looking for Hungarian, rather than Slovenian research groups/help, don't you think?Even our limited family records refer to 'Andrew' Slaveck as 'from Hungary'.I'll see what's out there.

I believe people with this surname were Slovenian 'Hungarians', but there might be useful sources kept in Hungary, or even in Austria. In (4), you also wrote that Andrew always looked at himself as Slovenian. The area is in Slovenia, and most people were ethnic Slovenians. I would have tried to contact Slovenian societies first, before contacting Hungarian ones. Hopefully, you will stumble upon someone with knowledge of the Prekmurjan region.
