Hei!

Søker informasjon om Elias Kristiansen Selvik f. 18. mars 1886 på Øvre Selvik av foreldre Kristian Larsen og Severine Olsdtr. Selvik.

Mvh.

OWATONNA -- Dick Selvik died on Monday April 11, 2005.

He was the son of Norwegian immigrant Eli Selvik who came to America in 1907 from Bergen, Norway. His mother Hilda was a second generation Norwegian America from Bode, Iowa. He was married for 52 years to Ruth Marie Selvik (Chmelik) and they had three sons; Rick, Dean and Tim.

Dick was born on Jan. 5, 1921, in Bode, Iowa, and as a child moved to a farm east of Waseca, where he grew up. He had one brother, Jerry Selvik, who lived in Waseca his entire life with his wife Lu, and raised their five children.

Dick had many stories of growing upon a farm, from riding a one horse open sleigh to church on Christmas eve to taking care of the farm while his brother was in the Army during World War II.

Dick moved to Owatonna and sold Maytag washing machines for a few years. He and a partner bought Och's Caf on Cedar Street in the late 1940's where he met his wife Ruth and they quickly developed a romantic relationship.

Dick and Ruth were married on April 5, 1953, and after returning from their honeymoon in Chicago, renamed the restaurant Selvik's Cafe. They owned the restaurant for 19 years, raised their three sons in the basement of the restaurant, while Dick's mother ran a rooming house on the second floor.

In those days, the building on 313 North Cedar, was bustling with activity with the Cedar Street Business Coffee Club, children's birthday parties, family reunions, basketball team diners, and colorful characters staying at the rooming house.

In 1967, Dick and Ruth sold the restaurant and moved to a house on Rose Street to finish raising their family and manage the converted church office building next door. Dick sold real estate for 22 years in Owatonna involving himself in various real estate transactions through the years. Dick and Ruth eventually moved to a house on Cherry Street, near Mineral Springs Park, one of their favorites.

Dick and Ruth retired to Morehouse Place seven years ago and enjoy the community activities offered to their residents much like the Selvik's Cafe of years gone by. They traveled quite a bit, going on organized trips, visiting their son's in Georgia, Texas and Illinois, and traveling to Norway to visit relatives who did not immigrate to America. Dick died of complications from pneumonia early Monday morning with Ruth and Tim by his side. He was preceded in death by his son Dean in 1999. Dean's wife Jacque lives in Waco, Texas with their three son's Ben, Tait, and Jay. His oldest son Rick lives in Chicago with his wife Beth and son Joe and daughter Lizzy. His youngest son Tim lives in Owatonna with his wife Cindy, sons Ryan and Luke and daughter Kelsey. He will be fondly missed by his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 609 Lincoln Avenue, Owatonna on Thursday morning April 14 at 10 a.m. Memorials to the Owatonna Public Library, Hospice House, and Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mvh.
