Alfred K. Orstad, 79, a resident of the Sandstone community since 1902, passed away suddenly at his home Saturday evening, December 18th.

 

Mr. Orstad was born at Egersund, Norway, October 14, 1886, the son of Andrew and Christine Orstad. He came with his parents to Sandstone in 1902 and had been a resident of the village since that time. He was married to Hedvig Helmundsen of Skien, Norway, at Sandstone on September 19, 1909. Mrs. Orstad preceded him in death on April 17, 1963.

 

For many years he worked as a blacksmith with the Sandstone Quarries Co. For a number of years prior to his retirement in 1956, he was an employee with the Minnesota Highway Department. He was a member of the United Church of Christ (Cong.) at Sandstone.

 

Surviving him are two daughters, Evelyn of Sandstone and Christine of Minneapolis, and one brother, Axel, of Sandstone. One daughter, Anna, preceded him in death in 1923.

 

Funeral services were held at the United Church of Christ (Cong.) at Sandstone Tuesday, December 21 at 2 p.m. with Rev. David E. Arnold officiating. Mrs.. James Best was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Arthur H. Larson. Casket bearers were Carl Tomhave, Verner Nelson, Arthur Orstad, John Phaller, Burton Sandwick and Toivo Luoma. Interment was in Sandstone Spring Park Cemetery.

 

Larson Funeral Home, Sandstone, was in charge of arrangements.
