Hello,

I am hoping that you may be able to help me to confirm my conclusion that the wife of Sorenskriver and Auktionsdirektor Henrik Bertelsen Thaulow (1655 Rinkobing-1717 Moss), and mother of Hans Henrik Thaulow (1692 Moss-1757 Moss), Henrik Arnold Thaulow and Gidsken Thaulow, was indeed Anne Hansdatter Lund (?-1738 Moss)who was a daughter of Hans Larsen/Lauritsen (?-Dec. 1692 Trondheim)and Gidsken Arentsdatter (?-Oct.1718 Trondheim). It is suggested in a family history from 1776, located in the Thaulow Museum of the Norsk Folkemuseum, that Henrik Bertelsen Thaulow cam from Denmark as a young man to be a tutor in Trondheim and that his pupil there was Anne Hansdatter Lund. Some later family histories suggest that the wife of Henrik Bertelsen Thaulow was a Maren Hansdatter Hammer, but I have never found that name in any original record and I suspect that it is simply a mistake.

It is clear that Gidsken Arentsdatter, wife of Hans Larsen/Lauritsen had a daughter who married a Sorenskriver Thaulow. In the skifte of Gidsken Arentsdatter of1718 from Trondheim one of the heirs is "Sorenskriver Tavlos enche Syndenfields": http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-sk20090203430564.jpg

What I cannot understand is where the last name "Lund" comes from. It is not used s far as I can see by either of the parents of Anne Hansdater Lund. Both seem to have been fairly prominent in Trondheim at the time. Hans Larsen/Lauritsen was a veier and maler and is also described as a prokurator. Gidsken Arentsdatter is supposed to be the daughter of Arent Smed (?-1688 Trondheim). I understand that Hans, Gidsken and Arent are all buried in the cathedral of Trondheim and so presumably were wealthy or otherwise important. It seems that Hans and Gidsken had sufficient wealth to have a tutor for their daughter. There are others in the region with the last name Lund, but none with the first name Hans, that I can see (for example, Raphael Lund had a daughter named Anne). If you can provide and explanation for this name "Lund" I would be grateful.

I have been unable to locate any record of marriage in Trondheim between Henrik Bertelsen and Anne Hansdatter Lund. It is difficult to read the church book from that time. Henrik Bertelsen is supposed to have been appointed Sorenskriver in Moss on May 2, 1685 and so presumably left Trondheim at that ime. Therefore, the marriage must have preceded that date or he must have returned to Trondheim later to marry. Are you perhaps aware of any transcription or early Trondheim marriage records that might allow a reliable search? A marriage record would of course provide the further proof I seek.

Finally, if you have any further information concerning Hans Larsen/Lauritsen, Gidsken Arentsdatter or her father Arent Smed, I would be most grateful.

Thank you very much for any help you are able to provide.
