Erva J. Verner, 94, of Mesa passed away on May 10, 2011.

 

She was born in Eau Claire, Wis. to Charles and Blanche Strand. She graduated from the Univ. of Wisconsin in 1939 with a BA in philosophy and journalism and from Arizona State Univ. in 1960 with an MA in education and again in 1971 with an Education Specialist degree.

 

She was preceded in death in 1984 by her beloved husband, Jack, whom she married in 1940. She is survived by sons, Jim, David and Don; daughter, Jackie Rundio; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

 

Erva spent many years as an educator. She taught elementary school in Scottsdale, Phoenix and at the Campus Laboratory School at ASU in Tempe. She was an assistant professor and lecturer at the ASU college of Education from 1966-1972. She served 10 years as Coordinator of Title I and Migrant I Education in Nampa, Idaho schools, where she retired in 1982.

 

She was a bold, brilliant, beautiful woman and will be missed by her family and friends.
